I stayed at Ballynahinch with a group of 9 family members and this beautiful place was beautiful beyond all of our wildest dreams. The rooms are large and beautifully appointed. The grounds are massive, peaceful, covered in walking paths , flowers and there is a stream running through. We all walked the grounds daily and came across horses, beautiful plants, trees and flowers and we were enchanted. The service is beyond professional . Anything any of us needed was provided. There are fireplaces to sit by day and night, parlor rooms to relax in and the restaurant, where we all had breakfast every morning is the best any of us have ever experiences from fresh ham, scones, eggs. cheeses, etc, etc. Anything anyone could ever want. The beds are comfortable and the property is peaceful. We took day trips to the Aran Islands and elsewhere and those experiences were fabulous but we will return to spend days at the property because we were so sad to leave !

This was my absolute favorite place we stayed in Ireland. The countryside is beautiful. We loved our daily walks, the coziness of the common areas, the luxury of our room and the drives into nearby towns. The weather was probably the worst during our stay here so it prevented us from doing more outdoor activities but we absolutely loved being able to play games with food and drink in the common rooms.

Room tip: Newer rooms are not in the original house but we loved our room and experience in the original part of the house

If you just wanted to get to the Irish countryside and be able to walk by a river (all of which is terrific here), you could probably find a B&B where you might pay quite a bit less and have a warmer welcome. If you're hoping for a "castle" experience I'm afraid this will be a disappointment; it reminded us of a play we once saw about a holiday at "Butlins", apparently a sort of UK basic all-inclusive. Really, it wasn't that bad, the food was good, the fires were crackling, and the room was quiet. But for almost $450 dollars for 1 night and dinner, it was disappointing that they could not produce a morning paper (all given away), often there was no where to sit in the "lounges" (all seats taken), no turndown service, no one to take your wet coat when you arrive, crowds of people going by with glasses of beer dripping..... just not what we expected at that price. Also the dining room service was quite poor, especially at breakfast (I asked for sugar for my coffee and was told to go get some from the buffet; even though all the other tables around us had sugar, salt and pepper). Felt to me like a compromise that would please no one; but others here have reviewed more favourably so perhaps I am just not their target demographic.

Room tip: Room 7 had a "river view" standing right beside the window but none otherwise due to a wide "parapet" outside the room

Throughout our stay we found the staff to be extremely courteous, friendly and obliging.
Our room was spacious and overlooking the beautiful river which enticed us on the respective walks.Coats and wellies were supplied when necessary which is a welcome aspect to comfort and marketing.
The quality of the food in the main restaurant was superb complimented by an excellent service. Allied to this was the "Pub" which also provided superb food.
There was a very homely atmosphere throughout the hotel with all the open log fires which could be found in various sitting rooms + bar + restaurant.
There are many trails/walks throughout the estate which are well signposted and absolutely spotless!

This is our second stay at Ballynahinch , and we saved the best for last! Unfortunately, when arriving at the castle, both my husband and I had a bit of a stomach flu. The staff and Paddy was so attentive and helpful that he brought up some soup, bread, water and ginger ale, to help us get better! After about 18 hours of sleep, in a great bed, and a lot of hydration, my husband and I were on the mend to enjoy this awesome estate! We cannot say enough about the way we were treated , being ill on vacation is bad enough BUT this staff made it so much better! This hotel is still our favorite in Ireland and if you have a chance to visit stay at least 2 days!

Room tip: The rooms over the restaurant are noisy as you can hear the chairs move on the wood floor. But they are beautiful
