This historic inn was once a town hall (duh?) and later the offices for the Homestake Mining Company. Our room was very clean and convenient, and plenty spacious for a couple. Owner was very friendly and helpful when guests had questions. Decent restaurants are within walking distance, and a short drive takes you to rolling forested hills and rushing streams. Just be aware that there is no full/sit-down breakfast; the continental breakfast is basically juice, coffee, whole fruit, store-bought pastries.

Room Tip: Defiance was good; any room seemed fine as streets were quiet

Thank you for taking the time to review. We are pretty darn fond of our location - very near the Black Hills and all of the mountain streams, trails and landmarks. I'm glad you found us and we hope you visit again!

The room was incredibly comfortable, clean and beautiful. The location was ideal as you can walk to area establishments with ease (it is a hilly walk). The Inn maintained its historical nature and yet has modern conveniences (except there is no elevator to the upper floor which is not a problem as there are rooms on the main level). The host, Mark, is a very friendly and helpful person. He is proud of the Inn, the town and the community members. I marked the Inn as budget because of price, and I marked it luxury because of the beauty and incredible comfort.

Room Tip: I believe every room would be excellent; however, ask Mark for suggestions to be certain.

The Town Hall Inn is a great little hotel with a lot of character, more similar to a bed and breakfast than a chain hotel. It is conveniently located downtown Lead, SD within a couple of blocks of both the Black Hills Mining Museum and Sanford Lab Homestake Gold Mine visitor center. The inn keeper was helpful in suggesting restaurants and activities that might be of interest. As a point of comparison, we stayed in 9 different hotels (mostly national park lodges) during this vacation and the Town Hall Inn was, by far, the cleanest most comfortable room. The Inn also offers a light breakfast of pastries, fruit, juice and coffee in the lobby. I didn't see any tables inside but we were there on a beautiful day so we used a nice little table out front. I guess most people take their breakfast back to their room. There were 2 minor things that surprised us. First was a group of people loitering and smoking outside the inn when we arrived. This made us briefly question our choice. Second, there isn't an extra chain or deadbolt lock on the room door like you often find on hotel room doors. However, we wouldn't let either of these things deter us from staying here again.

We appreciate your review and we are so happy you chose to stay at The Town Hall Inn. We would like to mention a couple things about your review; We do have deadbolt locks in addition to the doorknob lock on all the rooms, (sometimes those things can get overlooked!)
The people out front were guests - we have patio furniture in the front lawn and sometimes guests who are smokers take advantage of that area. (We are a non- smoking hotel.)
Thank you again for choosing us - we feel pretty darn honored that out of nine different hotels ours was the cleanest and most comfortable... we are blushing!
Please come back soon!

Town Hall in was WONDERFUL! We were coming from camping in the Badlands, so any hotel probably would have been a welcome relief. But the Town Hall Inn was such a nice place to land. We arrived late at night and were promptly greeted. Our room was wonderful. So clean, super charming and had everything we could need and more. They gave us directions to the only place in town that was open for dinner and we found a light breakfast the next day. We would absolutely stay there again! Not a single complaint!
