Spent an hour walking about the tombstones of this fascinating old cemetery. Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are buried there and the stories and legends are all too real. Close by to the other sites of Deadwood, within an easy 5 minute walk.

The Mount Moriah Cemetery is toured on foot. Deadwood lies in a very steep valley. Visitors need to be prepared to do some pretty significant urban hiking to get to Wild Bill and Calamity Jane. Be prepared for VERY significant hiking at altitude to get up to Seth Bullock. The Welcome Center provides an excellent map and you can take your time. The Cemetery residents aren't going anywhere!

This cemetery was very easy to find in the heart of Deadwood on a street named Cemetery, At the top of a steep hill surrounded by trees, it evokes a timeless sense of quietude and peace. After a brief walk, we easily located Wild Bill Hickock’s and Calamity Jane’s graves. It is not a touristy place at all. Just a peaceful place of contemplation and repose.

So much history and interesting and fun too. Somewhat of a climbing but not bad even for us"oldies". We really enjoyed it and the ladies at the gate are very helpful and will treat your furry friends to a drink and a"pet" too!! We spent hours there and loved it.

I thought this visit to a cemetery would be interesting but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The views from the top are definitely worth the climb. Take your hiking boots and a camera.
