I grew up going to Hersheypark every summer. I have NEVER been inside Hersheypark Arena until October 1992 when I went there for a concert. And I haven't been inside that arena until 2017 when I went there on February 25, 2017. Anyway, I just don't understand why Hersheypark Arena isn't on the National Register Of Historic Places.
Hersheypark Arena is a historic building that was built in 1936, it was the former home of the Hershey Bears Hockey Team. They played here up until 2002 when Giant Center was built. Hersheypark Arena is now used for Public Ice Skating (I'm not sure when Public skating begins).
I grew up at Hersheypark arena. From ice skating to so many performances of different sports and great Hockey! My father was rink manager and I was her many times in my lifetime. A beautiful building with so many fond memories,
I love this building. Home of Hershey Bears for over 60 years it was spared the wreaking ball. It's currently home of Lebanon Valley College Hockey and also holds public ice skating. The skating usually runs 2 to 4 on weekends. For $7 it's a great deal. If you choose to watch skating from the seating bowl you don't have to pay. The arena is very old and unlike any other sporting facility and that's what makes it cool. The lower concourse is actually just a pathway the circles the seating bowl. Bathrooms and concession stands are hidden beyond the openings in the seating bowl and do not connect each other. There isn't a center scoreboard or video board. The scoreboards are from 1963 and are the same used when the Bears played here. The seats are wood and club levels and suites never existed. The Bears haven't totality pulled out of the place. Their championship banners still hang on the wall and retired numbers hang over the ice. There's even a bear on the ice. The only drawback is that the upper level is rarely open. This is a must see for all hockey fans.
