Tight quarters for boarders, views remove your blues

Awesome scenery. From The Shining, Timberline has a lot to offer. Mind you, it's out of the way and it takes a while on the winding roads to get there. You can ski year round. Plenty of hiking on marked trails. Restaurants within. Super friendly staff who love their jobs (Operations Manager Eric is outstanding). The room we had was...small with to single beds in opposite corners of the tight room. Small, but full, bathroom. Stand up shower, hair dryer. The definition of "Rustic." Door keys, lots of wood doors and paneling, etc., an antique dial phone and fan, both working. A small TV. No mini-fridge or microwave, or coffee. No iron. A small closet. No desk or chairs. Spring water in a bottle, $20 if you want to take it, or drink and leave the bottle. We rode the ski lift up and back, which was quite nice. Majestic views. you're right there on Mount Hood, and Mount Jefferson is in the distance. Ride the lift and you'll go through, then above, the clouds. It's cold, even in summer.

Went for a quick overnight trip. Front desk was friendly and helpful. Very much enjoyed eating in the Cascade Dining Room for dinner, making reservations prior is recommended. Service and meal was spot on. Newly renovated swimming pool had the vibe with pool and hot tub. Had after dinner drinks later in Ram's Head Bar, very nice atmosphere and Jon, our bartender, was just right. Decided next day to book again, went from a Queen Suite, which was very comfy, to a bunk room. Bring water shoes for shared bathroom/shower, lots of use and not always that clean. Heads up, no tv in bunk room. Later, craving some pizza we headed to Blue Ox Bar, not a good experience, at all. All tables empty and dirty, sat at counter, dirty. Service worker not welcoming, had to ask for counter to be cleaned. Pizza was gross and so greasy, literally spit it in napkin. I get being busy, but call for help; what is main Food & Beverage people doing? Ended up back at Ram's Head Bar, recommend the clam chowder! We enjoyed walking around admiring the building itself, learning more about the history, walking the trails, and experiencing the breathtaking views. We will be back.

Room tip: If staying in bunk rooms, bring shower shoes.

Take a deep breath and enjoy the ambiance of having Mt Hood as your bedside companion. As one of Oregon’s top tourist attractions, this lodge’s history is obvious. From the 100 foot beams to the carved animals and the renovated pool and spa this Oregon icon is the place to be. The rooms are cozy. The restaurant was surprisingly good with hefty portions.

Room tip: Request a room with an odd number on a high floor with a view of Mt Hood.

I had such a great experience staying here. I had visited in the past to see the main spaces and have a drink, but this was my first time staying overnight. I stayed in a lovely room on the third floor that had a great view over the main entrance. I preordered a 6 beers and a little meat board and it was delivered on my arrival and it was a nice little treat after a long travel day. The room was comfortable. I had a buffet breakfast in the dining room on my check out day. There quite a few options and the food was fresh. I didn't get a chance to swim, but I did go look at the newly renovated pool and it was gorgeous.

The lodge is great but the Ramshead restaurant was absolutely awful! We hiked 30 miles and were starving and couldnt wait to eat and celebrate. We ordered our dinners and after 30 minutes the waitress comes back to tell us they ran out of salmon and we had to pick something else. The food was really bad and the service less then amazing.

We took our daughter to Summer Ski Training and stayed at the Timberline Lodge. Our experience was far from what we expected. Despite hanging the "Please Service" sign on our door at 7 AM every morning before heading out to ski, our room wasn't serviced not once, but twice. We returned to no fresh sheets, an uncleaned bathroom, and floors that hadn't been touched. The only thing we received were fresh towels, which was insufficient given the overall lack of cleanliness. This experience was incredibly disappointing, especially considering the high expectations we had for Timberline Lodge. We hope management addresses these issues for future guests. While it’s understood when you walk in the door that the family who operates the property wants to preserve the original charm circa 1937, there are ways to do so, while also updating the property to this century. All the furniture looks as if it’s also from 1937. The family that has operated the property on behalf of the US Forest Service needs to do the patrons a favor and sell the operating rights to a major chain like Ritz or Montage. There’s an incredible missed opportunity there. It’s clear the family who operates the property hasn’t updated it because they don’t feel as if they need to. They are wrong. We will be back in Mount Hood 4th of July week next year and we will be renting an AirBnB.
