loved the convenient location to Powell's/Pearl District and the onsite parking. Staff was very friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend this place to stay for anyone wanting to spend a few days exploring the city.

The location of the Mark Spencer hotel is great… close to the bookstore, restaurants, bars and shops. Our suite was spacious, comfortable, and clean. The service was great. We would stay there again for sure.

I got a killer deal on this hotel (3 nights for $500) so keeping that in mind, I was fine with what I recieved, but with a ton of hotels in PDX, skip this one.
There is no doorman, the concierge is to the left of the entrance, the elevators don't require a card to operate and the rooms don't have extra security, just a deadbolt. As a solo woman traveler, I felt unsafe and barricaded the door with the nightstand and chair every time I was in my room. My room, 201, was right next to the elevator and the bed was literally inches from the door on the same wall. The rooms are old, smell old and in need of an update. The carpet throughout the hotel is gross and stained. The walls are paper thin.
It's centrally located and less than a block from Powells and other good Portland-y things but I wouldn't stay here again.

Dear Chelsea,
We are sorry to hear how disappointed you were with your stay. This isn't the experience we ever want for our guests and we pride ourselves on providing a great stay in a safe environment. In addition to deadbolt locks on the guest room doors, our locks have all been upgraded to RFID, which randomly reprograms and assigns a new code for locking and unlocking the door with each guest; so you can rest comfortably knowing that keys prior to your will not work on your door. Hotel entrances also remain locked each evening to allow only hotel guests to enter the building.
The Mark Spencer is amongst the oldest hotels in the State of Oregon, however, we completed renovation of all of our guest rooms and guest corridors in 2017. We are currently working on some updates for our lobby, including a choice of new carpet, and working with designers for a future full lobby renovation. We apologize that we did not meet expectations for this trip, especially given that you were in one of only five rooms in the hotel that share a wall with one of our elevators. We would appreciate another opportunity to impress you.

location is nice, room is kind of small but its okay. i am not trying to get a free stuff, just need to borrow coffee maker because the room doesnt come with it for the 4 star hotel kind of weird. dont deal with the front desk guy name axel
or axis, nice talk but sarcastic. dont expect good service from this guy.

We are glad you found our location to meet your expectations, however, we apologize that the customer service you received was not typical of what our guests experience. The majority of our rooms offer full kitchens, which include coffee makers, so we apologize for any confusion with our desk staff. We unfortunately do not employ anyone with either of the aforementioned names; however, we will make sure to address your comments with all of our team members at the front desk, as our goal is to always provide an unsurpassed degree of personalized service and attention that each guest justly deserves.

Very nice hotel experience with a great room with kitchenette. The bed and bedding were soft and cozy. The staff were extremely friendly. Underground parking available. Accessibility access is available however somewhat convoluted thru different doors and elevators to reach front desk.

Our first impression of the hotel was walking in and meeting the employee at the front desk. His name was Joel. He was knowledgeable, polite, friendly and helpful. Our room wasn't ready, which was ok because we were early. So he did a pre-check in with us, gave us a temporary key card so we could park our car in the underground parking and then while we were out exploring Portland he called us to let us know our room was ready.
Our room was beautiful remodeled, smelled clean and slight fragrant which gave the room a comfortable welcoming feeling. The bed was sooo comfortable and there was a little fridge and microwave in the room too.
The hotel is in the theater district about a block from Powells Book Store. For everything we wanted to do we found this hotel to be in the perfect location.
Everything about this hotel was amazing and we are looking forward to staying there again.
