Reception Screws up Reservation

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Feb 2020
I booked my reservation using a Choice Privileges email offering holiday bonus points. My reservation was confirmed by Choice Hotels.

I arrived at the Econolodge on and was first told that I had no reservation. Then I was told the reservation was for a different date. I showed the receptionist my confirmation from Choice Hotels and she then stated that they had been unable to charge my credit card, so the reservation did not go through. I had them run my credit card again and settled in for the night.

The next morning, they told me my credit card still had not gone through, so they ran it again. In the end, they charged me a higher rate than I booked and refused the bonus points. In addition, they cancelled the online reservation I made on the same day I checked in so they could charge the higher rate.

Also, there was remodeling going on and the heater blew dust and grit throughout the room. Bottom line: Avoid! Go down the street to Quality Suites.

I saw the pictures on their offical website. But when I arrived I was pleasantly suprised. The outside had new siding and the colors were changed on the building. When I went to check in I was told that the whole building was renovated but the new pictures are not posted on their website yet. When I got to the room I found a brand new floor, a mircowave and refigerator and a large flat screen television with over 100 channels of television. That is more channels than any other hotel I have ever stayed at. The Econolodge Portland Airport is directly across the street from the MAX lite rail stop. It goes to the airport and meets with other rail cars to cove of Portland and surrounding areas. The Econolodge Portland Airport will be my place to stay the next time I come to Portland

I booked this hotel specifically because it has a whirlpool and sauna but when I arrived it was closed. The hot tub was out of service but the sauna still worked although they wouldn't let me use it.

Disappointing but not unexpected from an econolodge.

Hello Ryan, We did notify you that our spa was out for maintenance and we also have a large sign posted at the hotel stating such. It is certainly up now and ready to use. The day it was down was the day you happened to come in. Prior to that it hasn't been down for a very long time but we have to conduct routine maintenance.

Thank you and we hope to serve you again at the Econolodge Portland Airport some day!

Have a wonderful day!

If I could give this hotel a 0 rating I would. My husband and I were exhausted from driving and it was the closest place to stay. I should have read the reviews first. Within the first minute of going into the lobby there was homeless people in there getting coffee, the smell was horrible. We were givin our keys and we went to our room. The first thing we noticed was a dirty towel on the floor, we picked it up only to see blood stains all over the carpet. We left back down to the lobby to request a new room. We were told it was hair dye. The second room smelled so bad that it almost set me into an asthma attack(it was suppose to be a non smoking room) the smell was a mixture between smoke and a rotting animal. The same red/brown stains were all over the carpet. Again, we asked for a new room. We were then told it smelled in there because the smells from other rooms go through the vents, we were also told once again it was hair dye. The third room had brown splatter all over the ceiling and dark brown stains on the carpet. I washed my hands and the sink was so clogged that the smell was coming up thorough the drains. We couldn’t even take our shoes off. We tried to sleep in the room but the smell was unbareable. My husband and I were so exhausted we slept in our vehicle and showered in there in the morning with sandals on our feet. Checking out in the morning was the best part of this stay. I can’t rate the breakfast though because there was 2 homeless people in there eating the breakfast when I was going to grab a coffee. We travel all year and this is the first time I have ever left a review like this. I swear the rooms looked and smelled like people were murdered in them. I wish I was exaggerating. We phoned choice hotels and sent them all the photos. They have since opened up an investigation on this hotel. I’ve also saved all photos and will upload them onto every website I can.

This was the absolute worst experience ever. First the room was gross, stains on the carpet, dirty walls, no light bulbs in the lamps by the bed. Just not clean. Second, there are people conducting drug deals right in front of the hotel. Then my boyfriend was the one that checked into the hotel since I didn't arrive until late on a long flight. He does not have a credit card so the guy at the desk said he could out the deposit on a debit card or if he wanted to get it back right away, could leave a cash deposit. He opted to leave a cash deposit so he would get the money back the next day. The next morning when he tried to get the cash deposit, the woman at the counter was very rude to him and said there was no record of the deposit. After some arguing it she said he would have to come bay at 11pm when the night guy would be back. This did not make any sense so I called corporate who basically did nothing but call the desk lady and say the same thing. We also called the cops who came and spoke with the woman. The cop also said she was very rude. Needless to say that did not go anywhere. Thankfully my boyfriend did come back at 11pm just when the night guy arrived and actually did end of getting his money back after all of that. Do not leave a cash deposit, also just avoid at all cost, rooms are nasty, drug deals are going on outside, just no.

Hello TIGERTIFF816,

Do you have the wrong hotel? We have recently renovated since and we have all newly remodeled upgrades.

Deposits are required of all guests for incidentals just like all hotels and as soon as you present your receipt you get it back. Did you perhaps misplace your receipt?

Have you seen the updates at our Econolodge Portland Airport yet? If not please do give us another chance. Just take a look at our new hotel and rooms for yourself or we can show you in person if you'd like to stop by!

There are cockroaches and spiders in the rooms. Dozens of spider webs, and fungus gnats too. We left within 30m of checking in and the hotel refused to provide a refund. The employee (Cindy) even had the gall to accuse us of lying and faking the photos. Why would we check in (with our 3yo son), unload our stuff, then leave 30m later if we were faking it? That's asinine to even think of. Let the photos attached provide their own evidence.

Edit: The business only contacted me after I left this review on here and Google, and it's clear they are trying to silence me. I will not be coerced into removing my reviews under any circumstances. Other travelers deserve to know that there is a cockroach infestation in this hotel, and should stay far away from this miserable place. Also, the "Owner" that responds to the reviews is not the owner, it's a front desk employee. The same one that accused me of lying about the videos of the cockroaches I took.

There are location-tagged videos of cockroaches climbing the walls that I showed the front desk employee, clearly taken from their hotel room. What more evidence can be provided? The very fact that they have started harassing me with emails and voicemails after I left these reviews proves that they are desperately trying to hide the evidence of their uninhabitable hotel. I've also reported them to the Oregon Health Authority for these unlivable conditions.
