The Wonderful Benson

Loved our leisurely breakfast in the Benson. Service was wonderful, especially Bobby. Hotel ambience is of a more gilded era. Staff was most helpful. Room was spacious and comfortable. Loved the location. Easy walk to waterfront, market, and downtown locations. Loved our stay here.

Charming hotel located in the heart of Portland with friendly staff

Our family of 5 really enjoyed our stay here in November 2022. The hotel itself is beautiful and well-located (walkable) near the Pearl District, Powell's bookstore, and lots of restaurants and shopping. The building is charming and has fantastic architecture. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, particularly the wait staff in the restaurant, and particularly our morning server, Bobby. All of the servers in the restaurant went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Many of the staff have worked there for literally decades. The check-in process was easy. The rooms were very clean and had everything we needed. Valet was easy to use. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you're staying in Portland.

Good Place to stay in Portland

Was really impressed with the staff and the overall upkeep of the hotel. The lobby, bar, restaurant area was really nice. So many old hotels need renovation in the worse way, not the Benson. Rooms are dark, safe and quiet. Will go back next time in Portland.

Wonderful, old Grand Dame hotel

I was here visiting my daughter at college and checked into the charming Benson Hotel with it's lovely turn of the (20th) century lobby. Just gorgeous. The room was clean, bed super comfy and staff was excellent. On initial check-in, I found the view to be just awful, looking out on the rooftop next door with all its industrial equipment. When I complained, the desk clerk immediately moved me and upgraded me into an accessible room that was much larger with a much better view. My one complaint is that the TV offered no movie channels at all, even for pay. I was a single woman traveling alone and really didn't want to pass my time sitting in the bar or lobby so this was a drawback. One evening I chose to dine in the hotel by myself and went to the lobby restaurant. The servers really took excellent care of me, were very personable and friendly. Many of them had worked there for decades and really took pride in their work. Vic, the bell captain, was also very helpful and kind. I can't say enough about the terrific staff.

Best Hotel in DT Portland

I absolutely adore this hotel, the entire staff gave us amazing service. The Penthouse is great and I would recommend PH 4! If you are looking for good food you won't need to leave as they have breakfast, lunch, and dinner room service or dining downstairs. If you decide to book here ask for John Louie he will take care of you!! Best service ever! Thanks John and entire Benson staff for giving us a great experience:)
