Mismatch

I hadn't stayed at the Benson for many years until recently. The splendid wood-paneled lobby is as beautiful as ever, but the standard bedrooms seem to have been refurbished on the level of a good motel - utterly without character or charm. Our room was too small to comfortably accommodate 2 queen-size beds and the single sitting chair was stiff. But everything was spotless and the beds were excellent. The covid restrictions were still in place - no food or room service. But what service there was was professional and courteous.

Thank you for your feedback. Our average room size is approximately 330 square feet, which is larger than most properties. And, nearly 30% of our room inventory averages over 430 sq ft per room. The room you were in is one of our smaller rooms at 265 sq ft. Please ask for a larger room on your next stay and we will make certain to upgrade you.
Thank you, nevertheless, for sharing your concerns on this. Thank you, as well, for your compliments regarding our lobby, the cleanliness of your room and quality of service you received. We are grateful.

Traveling up the coast and so lucky to have reservations at The Benson

Absolutely amazing experience, both the building and the staff. If you are close you must visit the Benson and view the history in the stairwells there. Worth a trip on its own, but the staff. Excellent, beyond expectations. Made the trip so enjoyable, always greeted warmly coming or going, excellent service, clean and relaxing accommodations. But most importantly, the manager! George Schweitzer, ask for him! Concerned for our comfort and made wonderful suggestions for our site seeing. Would return to Portland just to stay in the Benson again. One of the nicest hotel and staffs we have experienced in our travels. Thanks so much for making our trip so enjoyable.

Room tip: Corner suites are great!

Pleasantly surprised family trip

There were a lot of visible efforts made by the staff (especially the front desk and happy hour staff) to make our stay enjoyable. Even though we had some mishaps (unplugged fridge, less than stellar valet experience), it was made up by the creative offerings and additional perks during covid, including the happy hour drinks and snack credit. The generous provision of in-room coffee and bottled water was very welcome during this challenging time.

Thank you for your feedback. There is no excuse for mishaps like those you mentioned. The refrigerator and valet should be reliable. Your experience on that front is not acceptable. Trip Highlight

We did our anniversary loop through Portland, Crater Lake then Oregon Coast. and the Benson was a starting point. The Hotel and Jr. Executive Suite was clean, spotless and well maintained. Not a spot of dust in the common area which is not easy for an older historic hotel. Staff are amazing. Bree booked and actually checked us in. Portland Downtown has been hit hard by social and political upheaval not to mention a once in a lifetime pandemic. Through this, the staff are courteous, friendly, upbeat and amazingly positive. We met other couples along the trip and recommended the Benson without hesitation. We plan to use the Benson for future visits.

The Benson Coast Hotel

Excellent hotel, reaonable rate and high quality service. In particular our first staff encounter was with Bre at the front desk. She was extremely helpful and professional as were all the front desk personnel as well as the valets. Staff assisted us in their normal duties but also made very good suggestions regarding restaurants to visit and sites to see on our vacation. Housekeeping kept a wonderful clean and fully functional room in good order for us on our 3 day visit. Highly recommend the Benson.
