I started a review for the Benson titled ‘Amazing Staff’ and it disappeared on me…lol…I’ll just hope it got posted and I’ll continue… I don’t often do reviews…so near with me…
Some background might be helpful.
My husband and I have been lucky enough to travel all over the world. We have always preferred staying in Historic Hotels. There is something very meaningful for us to walk back in time and experience the ‘Old World’ elegance, charm, top notch service…and yet have all the modern conveniences. Having said that…believe me, the BENSON does not disappoint!! Even though the Benson Restaurant and bar had not opened yet during our visit…we were not Inconvenienced at all! We had El Gaucho Restaurant and bar right next door! We picked up breakfast ’Grab Bags’ to have in our room…I mean who doesn’t like ‘breakfast in bed’! Perfect solution!
We had a wonderful experience at the Benson…a 2 day mini vacation thanks to the ambience and staff!!
Before, I close…Let me add another IMPORTANT reason we love the BENSON… it is because it is VERY WELL LOCATED!! Walking distance to our favorite restaurants (Jake’s Crawfish and Grill) -and stores ( Powell’s famous Bookstore)! We felt SAFE not only in the hotel, but also in the CITY of PORTLAND!
I know Portland has had a rough go of it this past year, for sure. But, I want folks to know this…We are in our 70’s and...I started a review for the Benson titled ‘Amazing Staff’ and it disappeared on me…lol…I’ll just hope it got posted and I’ll continue… I don’t often do reviews…so near with me…

I know Portland has had a rough go of it this past year, for sure. But, I want folks to know this…We are in our 70’s and 80’s …and WE felt SAFE to WALK to all our favorite places and back with no problems!! All was calm!!
Also…In these trying times I think it is especially important to acknowledge what is most important to any successful business…the people!! A special thank you to Benson’s team! Shaun, who spent a little time on the mezzanine talking with me…about ‘getting back out there’ safely after a year and a half in quarantine…sharing how much the Benson means to us and letting me share with him the special times my husband and I have spent at the Benson! (Our Wedding dinner and spending Xmas there to name 2 such occasions! Believe me we wouldn’t want to entrust those special occasions to just any hotel!)
Thank you, Shaun, for your kind attention and making our experience ‘extra’ special!
Julie, thank you, too, for our conversation and your lovely presence. Joel and Liza at the desk…met my every need with a smile and with upbeat positivity…all I needed to do was ask!
You all are a special asset to the Benson! Thank you for a wonderful experience!
