Charming quirkiness

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 May 2024via mobile
It makes a change to stay in a building with a history, charm and features rather than the featureless boxes that are so popular nowadays
Large welcoming reception area, though reception itself was somewhat perfunctory
Watch your extremities in the lift. That inner door snaps shut
Room was fine, 2 Beds. Nice toiletries. Step up to the bathroom to look out for during the night
The steam heating didn't appear to be on but there was an electric heater in the cupboard.
We had a forward facing room with a wonderful slope to the floor, upwards from door to windows. Could have skied on that slope. 😁
Free coffee / hot water/tea in reception 24/7.
Not entirely sure but when we left at around 7.30am they're didn't seem to be any life in the attached scandi cafe recommended for breakfast.
Post installed usb charge extensions but they seem very slow. Used my own multisocket instead.
Had no problems with general noise. Train was at the back, our room at front. Road works outside currently stopping any passing traffic (though the women shouting outside at the top of her voice at 4 on the morning was a right pain.

This was an adventure to be experienced. Yes the hotel is old and has many antiques, and the location is great. Walking distance for shopping and dining. The room was very clean, and had new carpeting. The train does run multiple times during the night. You can also hear a shoe drop from your upstairs neighbor. Street parking, it is free after 6 pm until 8 am, otherwise you must pay. They advertise adult beverages, but the night clerk was too engrossed in her phone to sell a beverage. My recommendation to management would be to hire a couple staff members that smile and want to be there, it would have set the tone for a more enjoyable stay.

This hotel is INCREDIBLY LOUD. It is UNBEARABLY LOUD. Between the constant noise of the train and the steam heaters, it sounds like I’m trying to sleep in a working mine. I went down to ask reception for ear plugs at 2 a.m., nowhere to be seen. Unless of course the receptionist was one of the three individuals standing outside the hotel smoking pot as it drifted into the lobby. I am learning not to book off of location and uniqueness, why pay over $600 to stay for two nights when and pay for parking (YES PARKING), breakfast and have no amenities. When I could stay at the local La Quinta and get parking, free breakfast, a pool, a gym, and a quiet stay for MUCH cheaper. What a bummer.

We enjoyed the historic building and its decor. We really loved the location, and how we could walk to so many great restaurants, bars, coffee shops, wine tasting rooms, and shops in less than 10 minutes! The hotel's discounts with some of those places were a nice bonus.

Our 2nd floor "Historic Queen" room had some noise from I-84 and the railroad, but we were still able to sleep well. (The hotel does provide earbuds.) We would absolutely stay here again!

We stayed one night in this 19th-century hotel. Room 105 is at the back and looks out over Pietro's Pizza parking lot and the train tracks. Noisey when the train goes by. several times a day. The large, high-ceiling room had 2 queen-size beds. Both were comfortable with an abundance of pillows. One tall dresser, a small sink in the room, and a tiny toilet/shower room. The nightstand was glued shut. We didn't mind the radiator heat during the night, but the room was cold in the morning. They provided a space heater, which we used. Good snack bar in room.
The location is perfect if you like shopping and eating out because it is right on the main commercial street. Lots of unique shops and restaurants to choose from.

Room tip: There is no free breakfast, so go to Betty's place down the street. Delicious offerings! The hotel has no parking, except on the street.

My wife and I spent two wonderful nights at the Hood River Hotel. Breakfast was delicious! Our favorite time was spent by the fireplace. We loved watching all of the pups coming in the hotel. We were impressed with photographs of all the different animals that have stayed there.
It will be great to return to this delightful place!!

Room tip: Plan to be amazed.
