I agree with the reviewer that commented on security. It was rather strange. However, I went to see what they had by Nicolai Fechin and was a little surprised. There was quite a bit from the Taos Society of Artists which was rather nice. We did see the Picher exhibit and it was a bit odd when looking at the dates on letters.

While OU's fame centers around football, the museum adds a superb touch of fine arts to the campus. It is located at the prominent corner of the campus, close to it is the Parrington Oval which serves as the focal point for visitors for starting the trip. The museum has lots of fabulous exhibits which can keep somebody enthralled for a long time. But do not go there on Mondays, as it is closed. A great treasure in a small town.

This was a lovely FREE art museum on the college campus with parking lot directly across the street. We had extra time on our ticket, and took a tour of the art museum. It was REALLY nice!!! A good variety of pieces, leisure, and comfortable. Must see if you are near OU!!!

Yes, there are the obligatory collections of art both Native American and historic, but the real surprise is the contemporary art collection. One wall dedicated to Nicolai Fechin and one wall of Maynard Dixon kept me spell bound. To find this many works of each artist in a single museum was pleasantly overwhelming. The other contemporary works are noteworthy as well, however there is nothing like the opportunity to get immersed in one artist's oeuvre - especially artists so significant and influential yet hard to find.

This is a wonderful museum, definitely worth the visit. The collections are diverse and beautiful. Surprising for such a small Museum.
