Soggy and flavourless scallop pie; needed a spoon to eat it but not worth the effort. Indifferent service. Give it a miss!

We came in here for lunch after reading all the great reviews on here ..
we were sooo disappointed!!
Don't get me wrong the decor and movie set items around the cafe were great but don't ask the staff about them or Errol Flynn as they have no idea..
There is a sign out the front saying come in nice warm fire... There was a fire.. but it was old and not much heat coming out of it.. We were cold and had to keep our big coats on.
All the tables were dirty by the fire and if they weren't dirty there was laundry half folded on the other table where a staff member continued to fold linen, sheets and pillow cases in front of patrons.
We ordered our food at the counter as the waitress couldn't tell us if they came to us to take our order or go to them, leaving us very confused. And when we arrived I asked if we could have a table for 2, and the young girl just shrugged her shoulders.
Anyway while waiting for our food the waitress came over and said they had no chicken for my toasted sandwich.. but couldn't offer me a substitute..
When the food did came out it was ok if underwhelming and the coffee was mediocre.
It was also interesting to watch the staff wander around aimlessly while leaving dirty tables uncleaned and if you ask a table to be cleared, don't expect it to include a wipe down.
We watched about 5 couples come in, and weren't greeted so they just walked out... Kinda wish that was us.

Absolutley disgusting. Left Hobart and thought a nice country bakery brekky would do the job, in Oatlands. Young lady at counter said to look at the menu, I found one... it was the lunch menu so she grudgingly found a breakfast one. She said they "Couldnt do the full breakfast" so we ordered one bacon and egg roll and one eggs and bacon. Eggs were fried, hard and cold. Bacon greasy.
The coffee was totally disgusting. havent had one like that in years and years as everywhere prides themselves on their coffee!
The board oustide said warm inside, fire but it wasnt lit.. it was SO cold.
This place needs to be closed down or sold to someone with a passion and heart. We thought Oatlands would be like Campbelltown, a real foodie hub, and closer to Hobart. It could make itself into something wonderful. Wish we had stopped at another cafe there OR driven past and onto Ross or Campbelltown. Tourism in Tassie? What a joke!

What a little gem this is. My chicken and Camembert pie was delicious as was my partners chunky steak. Pastry was perfect. Our double shot coffees hit the spot as well. The movie memorabilia that decorates the cafe was fascinating. Great service too. Quick and friendly even though it was busy. Highly recommend this place and the town of Oatlands. Beautifully restored sandstone buildings.
