Great location, great water pressure but very dated. One of the lifts didn’t work and was told it hadn’t for quite some time “it’s really expensive to fix so while we have a working one we don’t see the point in rushing”

The staff were all very nice. The bed was comfy. Food and drink were good. The room was great. The drain in the shower was a bit slow at times causing the water to hesrly come into the bedroom. Apart from that everything was fine. They even provided snow for us. I would stay there again

Stayed at the HI Washington recently as a gold for two nights with family. Hotel is in a good location off the A1 and a good base to explore the surrounding area including the Beamish museum, Angel of the North etc.
There was plenty of parking and staff all very helpful. We paid for the optional extra of breakfast which was nice but steep at £12 per person.
The room was clean but seems to be stuck in the past. There wasn’t a USB port in the room which meant I couldn’t charge a phone/devices and had to do so elsewhere.
Room also generally showed signs of wear and tear. Buttons missing off telephone in the room, TV damaged etc.
Good hotel overall but could be better.

Stayed 2 nights. Room was very clean and housekeeping came in the morning to leave new towels & make the bed. Shower room very clean too with shower gel and handsoap. Room was quiet with very little noise from road outside. Location good also. Reception staff were efficient and accommodating. If you want a good no extra frills standard of hotel then would highly recommend. Breakfast is extra and to be honest I paid once but wouldn't pay so much again, mainly because of lack of vegetarian breakfast items. However, food was hot & tasty. I would come back.

The in person staff at the desk and restaurant were nice the free breakfast was good and plentyfull. Gungy place try ssomewhere else I have been here for 4 days the bedding never changed even though the sign was out. No towles yesterday the door is cracked and dirty the chain is broken . No safe . Floor never cleaned. Bathroom door is gungy mold around the tub called front desk room service operator multiple times never received any answer. I was told 24 hour room service but they said no food. Unless i download the qrcode. When i finally got through. By calling the holiday inn reservations central booking line and having them contact the hotel to call me. . Terrible. I have stsyed in every type of hotel world wide. Give this one a pass. The bed was ok but i doubt its very clean. Gross

3rd visit to hotel - last time had opted to pay for premium room which was not good and not what I would choose again and to be honest I was reluctant to make another booking, but this was better experience!
Allocated room 308, plenty of space for 3 adults and would recommend - think this room has been refurbished; bathroom has shower only than bath with overhead shower that premium room had and decor/furnishing seemed "fresher".
Staff helpful even tried to source extra pillow - we got one than two we asked for but hotel was fully booked which probably explains this as all sofa beds were being used I was told.
Breakfast food really good but coffee machine broken - got Nescafe sachets I asked for than cafetiere that I don't like.
Overall good stay, great value.
Hope next stay is as good.
