Visited the Hollybush, had some very decent beer...had the posh fish fingers on a sandwich...filling and tasty...and the chicken nuggets were excellent...they offer 2 size portions...not on all dishes but good....it's a traditional pub with a kids play area...worth a visit if you're passing....music some Thursdays...

Fab pub by the canal, the Trent located in Staffordshire.
Food, fun, excellent entertainment.
Used by residents and holiday barge enthusiasts. Popular with all who know this pub...charming building...don't know the date but it has history.
Situated by the canal in beautiful countryside. Wonderful views children's play area, does not offer accommodation but plenty of fields around to camp in. Excellent food.

We had read mixed reviews about the Hollybush and decided to visit for lunch. It was not very busy although there were afew drinkers outside. The lasagne was quite tasty served with new potatoes and a limp salad garnish. The pie was a dish with beef and mushrooms quite tasty but was topped with a sheet of dark brown hard something don't know if it was supposed to be pastry. Was served with potatoes and carrots, peas and broccoli. On visiting the ladies there was soap in a dispenser but nowhere to dry hands, two empty dispensers which had cardboard rolls in and no hand dryer either. Shall not be returning.

We are not local, but visit the area a lot and The Holly Bush has always been our go two place to eat for years now, however after our last two visits I think we maybe looking else where. The food is fine, although portions are definitely getting smaller and the withdrawal of a specific kids menu is extremely disappointing. However the staff and a number of rude patrons have really spoiled our last two visitis. On our first visit this year in March the car park was very busy as it was a Saturday night, my husband popped out to get something from our car to find a group of children playing football in the car park without a care in the world for any damage they could cause. He politely pointed out this wasn't a good idea to be confronted by a mouthful of abuse from these awful creature. He spoke to the manager on his return who did go and speak to the kids, all be it reluctantly. Although this isn't the pubs fault, they didn't really seem bothered by it either as these kids were obviously regulars, not a good impression to visitors! On a more recent visit we experience a number of issues from a women getting served before my husband who had been waiting longer without even an apology, young members of staff pushing each other in bins passed our table (not a good example to my young children), and the final straw was when I realized the next day that my son had left a book on the table I called to asked if it had been handed in (it was a specific book that is unable to just be purchased anywhere) to be told by the person who answered nothing had been found, yet strangely when my dad visited yesterday he found it straight away in your books for sale area! If he thought of looking here, surely your staff member should have! This place could be so good again, but staff are too young and this is having an overall effect on the quality of service. Such a shame
