We visited Butlers on Saturday afternoon to celebrate a 90th birthday with 3 generations. We had pre-ordered Afternoon Tea which was absolutely fantastic! Not many sandwiches but loads of different cakes (see photo). We wanted a historic setting but a traditional menu which was exactly what we got & at £14.95 per person. Unlimited tea & coffee or Prosecco for an additional £5. A thoroughly enjoyable and memorable afternoon, highly recommend giving this place a visit.

Just eaten in the restaurant and the main courses were exceptional! The starters were average and service slow but well meaning! Would eat there again without a shadow of doubt!

If we were told once we were told several times that it had been a "long" day when we arrived for dinner. We were kept waiting for over 1/2 hour whilst a table was prepared and had to chase up the staff on several occasions. The TravelZoo offer that we had signed up to suggested that the DBB deal gave us each a dinner worth up to £35 and so it was very disappointing to be given the "bar" menu to choose from. Even if we had selected the most expensive choice for each course we couldn't have got up to £35! The menu itself did offer a number of "bar" type options and my calamari starter wasn't too bad. Beyond that it was all a little disappointing, aggravated by teh fact that it took over 2 1/2 hours from when we had first arrived to when we finally settled the bill. If it had been a bustling lively ambience then it may not have been so bad, but.... The staff were all very friendly but just didn't seem to realise that they needed to address our needs. Perhaps we just hit it on what had been a very sunday afternoon. However, from now on I will be very wary of incusive DBB deals without doing full and proper research about the place we are staying at, and teh standard of food they offer. see separate review for Park House Hotel as I do think that overall it is a good place to stay.

Spent two nights at the hotel for a reunion week-end, on the first night ate in Butlers Bar & restaurant, a good selection on the menu & reasonably priced, on the second night we ate in a private dining room because there were about 20 of us.
