Basically rooms were underwhelming, tired and grubby. Beds and duvets smelt really 'beddy'. Must be overdue for a wash. Very off putting. Toilet floor sticky, tv remote thick with grime. Breakfast probably could have been nice, but ordered scrambled eggs and toast with bacon. Very undercooked sloppy eggs turned up and sat congealing on the plate with flashed in the pan bacon. Eventually had to ask for the toast, but by then the rest was cold. Decided to give the cooked a miss and just had cold toast. However, the staff are very nice and friendly.
If the rest of the place was of the standard of the dining room curtains, it could be very nice, but it has a long way to go to be considered a good hotel.

Food great, staff very good, hotel rooms very tired.
Rooms look like not changed since 1970s. Very small bed for a double.
Can't fault food or staff though. Some money spent on refurbishment is needed.
Evening meal and breakfast good. Just everything else very dated.

We went to the Lysses House Hotel for a dinnerlast weekend. We had special menu with choices.

The bar for drinks before the meal is very comfortable and the bar itself carries a good selection of wines, beers on tap and spirits.

Staff had placed name cards on the table for us so we sat and ate. The food was well flavoured and delicious. Service was judicious and not too intrusive.

The whole evening was very well managed and, I think, modestly priced for what was served.

James who looks after front of house so professionally and Clive, the head chef should be commended.

My fellow book club members and myself enjoyed our New Years get together today for Afternoon Tea .
Not seeing any savoury options on the menu I rang beforehand to ask if cheese scones would be available instead of the usual sweet scones. 3 cheese scones were found - warm and fluffy. We asked for pickle or cream cheese to complete the savoury ' cream ' tea. 2 bowls of differing chutneys arrived.
No cream cheese, but this was quite an ask ,as cheese scones weren't on the menu anyway.
Plenty of refills of tea and coffee kept flowing.
Many thanks to the kitchen and wait staff. We had a lovely couple of hours
Perhaps savoury items could be added to the afternoon tea menu.
