Just perfect for what we wanted!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 19 Aug 2024
We booked a room here before a very early flight, part of the benefit being free parking.

The room was perfectly adequate, clean and comfortable although we did find the three-quarter size bed a bit small.

Part of the same operation is The Concorde Club, which we discovered is an amazing and legendary music venue. In fact they were gearing up for a big weekend of music the day we were there. The restaurant and bar is called The Moldy Fig. I had a lovely rib-eye steak and couldn't fault it.

Inside the restaurant and bar are pictures of many very famous artists who have played there over the years.. from Alan Price to Stephan Grappelli. I noted that each piece of background music being played had been carefully chosen to reflect artists who have played there.. a really nice touch

I also had the privilege of meeting the founder and owner of the whole shebang Mr Cole Mathieson. A charming and modest man. That certainly made my evening!

We've decided that we will always be staying here before any early flights, but will book a garden room. Thanks to all the staff!

      We recently stayed here for a function and had a mixed experience.

      Firstly, the negatives:-
      *No Air Con despite being advertised. Fans were not available during our stay. Room on first floor was incredibly hot. Windows covered in cobwebs outside so didn’t want to open.
      *Safe in room did not work.
      *Curtains (both nets & material) were filthy.
      * No pillow protectors ( mattress protector available)
      *Over bath shower no cubicle
      * Noisy toilet flush
      * Room key didn’t work consistently- do not keep near phone apparently!
      * Room /hotel extremely tired/dated/ not pristinely clean
      * Breakfast food poor quality. English breakfast & scrambled eggs poorly cooked. Bacon, hash brown burnt. Ran out of orange juice.
      * Extremely hot in the Moldy Fig for breakfast

      Positives:-
      * grounds nicely kept
      * staff friendly
      * free parking
      * free WiFi

      We didn’t like to complain whilst there as we were with friends. Wouldn’t stay again as there are other, better options available locally.

      Room tip: Take your own fan Eat breakfast elsewhere

      Stayed at this hotel for one night as part of a cruise parking deal, which included parking dinner bed and breakfast and taxi to and from the port. On arrival the receptionist Lisa was very friendly and informative. We had booked a standard room, but we were given a garden room as a upgrade, which was a lovely room and very clean. Dinner was disappointing the fish was soggy, and full of oil. The pork dish was awful,we did complain and they took off the price of the two drinks we purchased. Breakfast was excellent and delicious with a good choice of hot and cold food, and service was very good. We would definitely stay here again but maybe next time give the dinner a miss.

      Room tip: Garden rooms are really nice and spacious.

      We booked a package deal, dinner bed & breakfast to see Snake Davis. Check in was friendly and prompt. We had room 3 on the ground floor, it was dated and smelt a bit musty, the net curtains could have done with a wash. However the bed and bedding was very clean as I checked it over thoroughly as I have bed bug phobia and felt at ease with the cleanliness.
      We popped into the mouldy fig for a sandwich, service was prompt and sandwich was of good quality.
      We ate in the Concorde club in the evening, the service was a bit slow but we wasn’t in a hurry. Food was reasonable and flavourful.
      Breakfast was served in the mouldy fig, not well organised at all, had to ask for bowls for fruit/cereal, not a good buffet selection of fruits. Had to put bread through the toaster twice to get it properly done. The cooked breakfast was very nice and well presented.
      Reception staff Lisa was very helpful.
      We would return as it’s a welcoming venue.

      Rooms are pretty terrible,more like 1980s the place has a weird smell ,,food wasn't good half cooked sausage and beans were very old, all needs updating ,,carpets are worn and dirty staff didn't seem to care, definitely won't be returning especially as we could of had a nice premier inn with breakfast,, money wasted,!!!!

      Room tip: Please do not waste your money on the concorde club/Ellington lodge
