The 2 good things about this place were a. the service which overall was polite and attentive (not intrusively so) b. the food - we founds this place to be one of the better meals we have had at a traditional Indian Restaurant.

The negative is that you have to add VAT to the quoted prices and overall the food was relatively costly - five pounds once VAT in for a keema naan say or £1.20 for a poppadum..., Wine around £22 for a house bottle.

Food was good although the service was a tad slow, especially as the restaurant was very quiet.

It was a shame to see that the restaurant no longer offers their banquet deal on a Sunday night but the biggest shock was discovering that VAT is excluded from the menu prices.

This is really misleading as what appears to be reasonably priced menu turns out to be uncompetitive especially when compared to the other very good Indian restaurant in Hailsham (Royal Indian).

I fully appreciate that times are tough for the industry and higher costs need to be passed on to customers but the approach taken here seems very underhand.

It seems that this new menu with the VAT excluded pricing has only recently been implemented but until Radjoot decide to be more transparent on their pricing with customers then I will not be returning.

It’s a shame as we have always enjoyed eating at Rajdoot. I have given 3 stars as the food is still really good.
I can sympathise that with the current economic crisis, the hospitality sector is feeling the pinch and need to raise prices.
But what I’m not happy with is the underhanded fashion those who run Rajdoot have chosen to do it in.

Be warned that they have now reprinted their menus with a similar pricing as before but have included ‘price excluding VAT’ in small print. With a rise of 20% on all their pricing, this pushes them greatly out of contention with other local Indian restaurants.

Admittedly one could say I should have read the menu in more detail, however it is clear that this has been done in a deceitful fashion as firstly, it is not the norm to price this way in the UK and secondly I generally make my selections before my visit by reviewing the menu online. But despite the base pricing being identical, it is not ‘ex VAT’ online.

Radjoot, if you are going to continue pricing this way, please train your staff to inform customers of these alternative practices beforehand.

The menu online and in the restaurant excludes VAT. The restaurant menu states this in very small print. The online menu does not. The online takeaway menu does state that VAT is excluded.

There can be only one reason for this policy - to make their prices seem competitive.

I am not sure if this is illegal but it is sharp practice.

I can understand that restaurants have had a hell of a time over the last couple of years. The future continues to look bleak for the hospitality industry. However, we are all feeling the pinch and when prices are not transparent it is unfair.

The food at Rajdoot is fantastic, we use the takeaway frequently. Sadly, we will use the alternative local Indian Restaurant in future but will be happy to return to Rajdoot with a 5 star review when we feel their pricing is clear.
