Teotihuacan was the main reason we planned a trip to Mexico City.
We did a lot of research and decided to take an Uber there. (The ride from the city center was a little less than $20 Usd) We didn’t want to be rushed by a tour but also wanted to be able to leave once we were done. We arrived a little before 9 am and in fact they were people already in the pyramids. When we arrived the vendors were starting to set up. We didn’t encounter any crowds and the weather was perfect. The site is a must see! Simply amazing. It took us approximately 4 hours to walk around with the map, visit the museum and climb both pyramids. We were concern with finding an Uber back but it was very easy. Cell phone reception is not great on the site but it’s much better outside the gates. Wear comfortable shoes, sun protection and bring water.
History at its best. Use a guide to really enjoy it; for me there is a lack of infrastructure, it could be better, but it’s not bad.
This was the highlight of my trip to D.F. It's a little bit touristy with everyone climbing the pyramids and people selling bric-a-brac. However, the experience here is much more tangible than going to a museum where everything is behind glass.
The pyramids are a sight to behold, and they're difficult to climb. The view from the top of the Pyramid of the Sun is worth the climb, but we had a large crowd up there which killed the vibe. All of the smaller/less popular areas were more rewarding, IMO.
My girlfriend and I went here just a few days ago. Fantastic experience. You can take the public transportation there or a tour guide which will be way more expensive. We used to public train where you can take the 5 train also called the yellow line to "La Raza". From there you will walk pass the tunnel with the zodiac signs to Autobus de Norte. From there you can buy bus tickets at station 8 for 104 pesos round trip. The bus ride is a little under one hour considering if there is no traffic. Keep your bus tickets in a safe spot. You will need them to show the bus driver. When you arrive, buses come every 15-20 mins so when your finished all you have to do is go back to where the bus dropped you off at and walk across the street and another bus will come to take you back to the City. The entry fee to see the pyramids are 70 pesos. The pyramids are beautiful to see. The pyramid of the Sun is the largest. The stairs to get to the top is very steep. There were many people who couldn't get to the top so I suggest to be in good exercise condition. Although you can climb a few stairs and wait to you recover at certain sections of the pyramids is also a could strategy. The pyramid of the moon is not has big and the pyramid of the sun and its not allowed anymore to go the top of this pyramid. You can only go half way up now. There are many vendors trying to sell merchandise there. My suggestion is never buy anything at the first price offered to you. Negotiate on EVERYTHING you want buy there. Most of idems you want to buy there has to be in american dollars or pesos but there are a few stores that will accept visa or mastercard. The guys approaching you selling merchandise when your walking through the pyramids making jaguar noises only accept cash preferably pesos so be aware of that. My girlfriend and I went to see the pyramids around on wednesday around 12 pm and there many people but not crowded so that was good. Overall it was a great experience especially if your looking for a family vacation.
It's amazing that it's less than an hour from the city. It's best to have a tourist guide so you can appreciate it more. We only climbed the pyramid of the moon since it was noon already and it was so hot so go early!
