My wife and I live in North Raleigh, and Chai’s has evolved into our first choice for Asian takeout, probably on average once every 6 weeks or so. We have a pretty standard order which we enjoy every time: beef and broccoli, spring rolls, and a noodle dish option, typically Pad Se-Ew with shrimp or chicken added.
Beef and broccoli is a dish that I like to try at new Asian restaurants, and the version at Chai’s is in the top 5% of the versions that I’ve tried over the years. I find the beef to be very tender, plentiful and tasty every time we order it. The broccoli is also generous and usually very tender.
We have tried other noodle options, including the dan-dan and yakisoba, and they have been good, but we prefer the Pad Se-Ew over the others. Adding extra vegetables or a protein improves the dish, in our opinion.
I wish they offered egg rolls instead of spring rolls, but the spring rolls are usually well prepared. We’ve also tried the dumplings and the tempura, and they are adequate. In general we have found the appetizers to be good but not great.
The servings are very generous for two people to share, with leftovers often available. If you are in the North Raleigh area, give it a try.
