Visiting mirepoix

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 15 Jul 2017via mobile
It is a beautiful medieval bastide town and Mirepoix should not be missed if you are in this area. So we did, we booked hotel Le Commerce after reading some reviews I thought this hotel should met our expectations. Well to be honest, it did not. The owners were friendly, the breakfast was just A typical France breakfast so far so good. However the room was a Complete disaster can't much say more about this. Not fresh, outdated, yeah let's keep it that way. I paid 75 Euro for a family room so what can I complain? Nevertheless price worthy? Noop!

However we visit the town and did some sightseeing and that was good.
The highlight of this ancient bastide town is the central square - the Place des Couverts - which is surrounded by medieval houses and arcades (the covered walkways in front of the shops).

Have fun with visiting this place!

I have stayed here previously, and have recommended it to other friends living and visiting the area. On this occasion we booked for lunch, where in the past we had just had dinner. There were four of us, and we were welcomed by a very pleasant lady who looked after us for the meal. The menu is very adventurous and you have a choice of various priced menus from €19 up. We opted for a variety of dishes (starters, mains and dessert), all of which exceeded our expectations. An aperitif (Kir) to start, and followed by a lovely bottle of Minervois Rose, to accompany the meal.
Cost per person was €35, and we felt it was excellent value for money. Mirepoix is a beautiful medieval town, well worth a visit, and Hotel Commerce is an excellent choice for lunch. Enjoy!!

Great value for the money and good location. The facility are basic and clean. We had breakfast here and that was the same. If you looking for a hotel which offers value I would recommend this place. The bathroom could do with a bit of an upgrade but again the shower was good. Dont plan a late night as you have to be in by 11.00 which is not a problem as you will not find much to do after that time. Great bike route s as well around.

Le Commerce was a lovely hotel with a restaurant in its tree-shaded courtyard. We have a double room, with a window facing the church. The bathroom was the best in the whole trip. It was clean and looked like new. Only the air conditioning was not working very well. We could not change the temperature so we were a little too hot in during the night. Luckily it rained the second night. The only problem with the window open was the noise from rubbish collecting truck at 3am! But it's not the hotel's fault. I only wished Madam at the reception would smile like the rest of her staff. Otherwise, an efficient, old-fashioned hotel located very centrally with free parking nearby. Mirepoix itself is a very charming town.

Yes, the room was very small and had an unusual sliding door loo but that didn't really bother us as we booked it for the location. It's true that everything is a bit dated but it didn't detract from our stay. Being able to walk straight out into the centre of Mirepoix was brilliant. The courtyard restaurant food was as good as promised but the breakfast did leave something to be desired so we only ate it once. Would we go there again? Definitely!

This quaint old fashioned family run hotel and restaurant in the centre of the beautiful Medieval town of Mirepoix is a must for any visitors to the area. This is not fine dining, but it is good, wholesome, down to earth traditional French cooking and cuisine, that you would hope to find and at affordable prices. Whether you are eating out during the day or in the evening this restaurant offers the best value and quality food in the area. Particularly nice and my favourite time to visit is Monday lunchtime after visiting the fabulous market that Mirepoix hosts every week. Book a table outside to eat and sit under the shade of the giant Catalpa trees which offer mottled light and shade in a traditional French courtyard setting. The food is always good and the 'Plat de Jour' usually four courses costs around 13 euros, a bottle of house wine on top of that, which is always good by the way, and you will be set for the rest of the day. The staff are helpful, charming, efficient and attentive. I have recommended this restaurant to countless people and always they go back again, try it for yourself, its definitely my favourite restaurant in the area, and given a choice, I will always return here even though there are some very smart dining establishments in the close at hand.... 5*****
