Great Location

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 Jul 2016
Yes, the room was very small and had an unusual sliding door loo but that didn't really bother us as we booked it for the location. It's true that everything is a bit dated but it didn't detract from our stay. Being able to walk straight out into the centre of Mirepoix was brilliant. The courtyard restaurant food was as good as promised but the breakfast did leave something to be desired so we only ate it once. Would we go there again? Definitely!

This quaint old fashioned family run hotel and restaurant in the centre of the beautiful Medieval town of Mirepoix is a must for any visitors to the area. This is not fine dining, but it is good, wholesome, down to earth traditional French cooking and cuisine, that you would hope to find and at affordable prices. Whether you are eating out during the day or in the evening this restaurant offers the best value and quality food in the area. Particularly nice and my favourite time to visit is Monday lunchtime after visiting the fabulous market that Mirepoix hosts every week. Book a table outside to eat and sit under the shade of the giant Catalpa trees which offer mottled light and shade in a traditional French courtyard setting. The food is always good and the 'Plat de Jour' usually four courses costs around 13 euros, a bottle of house wine on top of that, which is always good by the way, and you will be set for the rest of the day. The staff are helpful, charming, efficient and attentive. I have recommended this restaurant to countless people and always they go back again, try it for yourself, its definitely my favourite restaurant in the area, and given a choice, I will always return here even though there are some very smart dining establishments in the close at hand.... 5*****

Good central location but the hotel is long past its prime. Bedrooms are tiny, small sagging mattresses and musty odours made one night here a hardship! On a positive note the garden is pleasant place for an aperitif. The breakfasts primarily consist of stale bread, tasteless coffee and yogurt

I quite liked this hotel. It's quite quaint and a nice old building. The rooms are a bit dated yes, but that's part of the charm. But if you like freedom or think you might get back late at night, it's probably not for you. For one thing, you have to hand in your key every time you go out and only pick it up when you get back in. We went to Carcassonne one day and got back at 11:20pm. The owner was waiting up for us so he could give us our room keys and lock the front gate! And we felt quite bad! He told us he normally locks up at 11:15pm. He wasn't too grumpy but what if we had been later? Would we have been locked out? There wasn't any information that told us we had to be back by a certain time but it did feel like there was an unwritten curfew!

I have been going to "le Commerce" since 1983 every year on our way to Spain. Yes, it is an old fashion hotel but I much rather have character and charm , than the non descript accommodation you can find in some "chain" hotels. The restaurant too is pretty good value. I shall be going again in 2 days time, and I look forward to Madame's welcome, I wonder, will Monsieur smile this year? I hope so.

I stayed here three times ten years ago, whilst buying a house in the town. The bedrooms are a little old fashioned, but we discovered a top floor room with ensuite shower which was pleasant and light. Half the price of a Carcassonne hotel where we stayed at about the same time.
Since then we've eaten there regularly. Service is good, and food is tasty. The lunch time 'menu' is superb value. Remember to book if you want to eat in the courtyard in the summer, or you'll probably be disappointed. This place is popular with locals and holiday makers.

Room tip: 2nd floor over looking the court yard.
