Nice quiet spot just outside of Stone Town. We stayed there 2 nights after staying in the centre of Stone Town just to get away from the noise and swim as we thought it was situated on a swimming beach, but it is definitely NOT a swimming beach. GOOD POINTS: pretty, pleasant setting, lovely pool and lapa. We did a private boat trip from Maruhubi to Prison Island and Sand Bank, which was convenient from there and good value for money. The bungalows are basic but comfy and priced accordingly. Lovely pool with sun lounges. MINUSES: food in restaurant very basic for the price. Breakfast rather tasteless. The balconies on the bungalows face to the back, not the front of the resort, so you only a view of the hotel being built and/or renovated behind the villas, and the big sand dredger dredging up sand from a portion of the beach which appears to be for the hotel being built behind the resort. Whatever the dredger is doing it seems it is going to be there for quite a while still.

Please note that this place is a short DRIVE from Stone Town, not a short WALK.

Overall review: it's not bad, but it is cheap and cheerful. I do feel we could have skipped this part of our trip. Before deciding whether to stay here, give some thought to the purpose of your stay - for some quiet, a nice pool and private boat trips it is great, bit not for swimming, beautiful view and good local food.

Very nice place to stay if you want to be close to Stone town, but not in the city. They have big tropical garden and great pool. Rooms are spacious and very well maintained. Staff both on reception and restaurant is nice and helpful. We were there in Feb and we were almost the only guests there but we felt welcome and everything was working fine. The manager Juma even organized a nice Bday dinner for my BF.

We planned our Zanzibar trip at the last minute for the new year and by this time most hotels were fully booked and those available were very expensive. We stumbled upon Maruhubi. We were a bit worried about it considering it was cheap. We went saying at least we would have a good view as it was right on the water. We were pleasantly surprised. The rooms are spacious with a working AC and wifi. The best thing about this place, it turned out, were the meals. My regards to the chef. We ended up eating dinner here for the days we were in Zanzibar. The staff are also very friendly and helpful.

Stayed there 3 nights over the Christmas period. Great pool overlooking a vista of the Zanzibar straights with beautiful sunsets.
A good place at a very good price and is very relaxing and good to just kick back and rest.
The restaurant is spacious and the food is good, nothing special, just good served by a fairly attentive staff. Rooms are nice and clean with good beds, but the bathroom a little lacking with no shower head?
Since it is just a little out of the centre of Zanzibar town, trips to other parts of the island are easily accomplished without traffic jam hassles. Spent 1 morning (to about 2pm) in the old town visiting the souk and another morning to see the dolphins off Kizimkazi then had a good lunch at Evergreen Beach hotel overlooking the Indian Ocean. Both days able to return to a cleaned room and/or the pool for a relaxing afternoon before going out in the evenings.
All in all a nice place for limited budgets, but has the potential to be one of the better hotels in the town...... just needs a few upgrades!

Room tip: Best views from rooms 1 through 5 overlooking the bay
