The Mizingani is right on the sea front a 2 minute walk from the ferry to Dar Es Salam. It is also well located for the attractions of Stonetown and is perfectly safe to walk out from in the evenings. The family room is well furnished if a little tired (in line with the shabby-chic style of the property). There is a lovely enclosed pool, with pool table and ample seating. The food at breakfast is ok but nothing to write home about. The USP is definitely the location.

Room tip: A pool view room may be less romantic than a sea view room, but it is unlikely to have the noise levels of the street to contend with.

Mizingani hotel is located in one of Zanzibar’s busiest streets which was perfect for me who travelled down solo. Mizingani is close to absolutely everything. When I first got there I had no idea what to expect when it came to safety for solo traveling girls like me. I was truly taken well good care of by the staff and they always made sure that all my questions were answered and that I got everything I needed. Whilst I was still in Serengeti National Park waiting for my flight home to Zanzibar my friend Jeanette arrived a few hours before me. I’m so thankful that she could stay and wait for me there even though we were going to stay somewhere else. The hotel staff’s service was excellent. The security guys helped us with carrying our luggages to our next hotel accommodation which was located a few minutes away. Sometimes during a late night, these guys would walk us home to our hotel just to make sure we got there safely. Now, who does that? Mizingani does not have their own car or driver but ask them to ask for Khassim. He is a private driver and a man of words. He won’t hustle you and he is someone you can truly rely on. My room was always clean and every night housekeeping will spray mosquito repellent to give an extra night protection. Thank you Mizingani and team for having me! I will definitely come back for sure!

Room tip: Ask for the Tippu tip room if you want an overlooking view of the Indian Ocean.

Mizingani looks a little rough from the outside but is very antique and clean on the inside. It is certainly not fancy but is really comfortable. The team there are super friendly and helpful. I would suggest if you book a day trip in advance through their reception you make sure it is communicated correctly to the next shift as the message is not passed correctly. Breakfast is simple but with a nice view. Location is great because you are close to anywhere you need to go or at least arrange yourself. Ome small note. Depending on the room you chose will determine your bathroom size. I opted for balcony which means the bathroom is tiny. When I changed room without a balcony - bathroom is spacious - just FYI. Happy with my stay and with the team there.

My short stay here was very good, the rooms mostly with balconies are clean and air conditioned, beds are comfortable with mosquito nets the staff are friendly and helpful, the food is good and location on the foreshore is perfect on the downside the elevator to the was out of service and there is no bar which is a shame as the location is perfect for sundowners...a G&T overlooking the bay would have been the bomb

Room tip: Rooms overlooking the pool/inner yard all with balconies and are quieter.
