As markets go this was surprisingly good. It seemed well organised and quite clean. Meat and fish markets are usually a challenge but these weren't too smelly. And it was good to see the choices on offer. Amazing variety of fish. The fruit and vegetables always make for colourful photos. Worth a visit.

The market is very busy and the Fish and meat section were abuzz with flies. Rather gross actually! I could think of nothing worse than buying fish or meat there.

Spices - loads plus ladies ware and fabrics.

It's all colourful and local and worth the experience!

As markets go around the globe Zanzibar s main market and bazaar are as authentic as you will find and a great photography opportunity. Women cover up out of respect for local tradition. The haggling is intense but a friendly affair. Every kind of fish available and wonderful coloured vegetables.

I'm not a huge fan of markets they make me a but claustrophobic. In Darajani Market you can find all the spices you want in larger quantities and better prices than your spice tour will offer. If you're a bit squeamish then I suggest you carry a scarf to block the smells of the fish and other things, it's expected in a market. The best time to go is early in the morning or later in the afternoon.
