As markets go around the globe Zanzibar s main market and bazaar are as authentic as you will find and a great photography opportunity. Women cover up out of respect for local tradition. The haggling is intense but a friendly affair. Every kind of fish available and wonderful coloured vegetables.

I'm not a huge fan of markets they make me a but claustrophobic. In Darajani Market you can find all the spices you want in larger quantities and better prices than your spice tour will offer. If you're a bit squeamish then I suggest you carry a scarf to block the smells of the fish and other things, it's expected in a market. The best time to go is early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

Nice to walk around, especially to see all the seafood, fabrics, spices.
Don't let anyone walk you around to be your "guide" because they just want commission so all the prices will be higher.

Is an impulsive market place where hundreds of guys are selling and buying. Hygienic standards are of course different however is worth to go there and look around.

it's a market. i wouldn't go all the way to see it and wouldn't book a tour, but if you're in the area it's worth going to see. bargain for everything. as in they ask for double.
