We spent 3 nights at this hotel. It is a family run operation that is well located and close to all the historic sites. Our room was comfortable and located on the second level of the hotel. The A/C worked well and the internet service was okay. Owners and staff were very pleasant and accommodating. The breakfast was simple but tasty and fully adequate. The restaurant is located on the top floor terrace with views of the harbour. The cook was full of good information and helped arrange tours.
We enjoyed our stay.

The Abuso Inn is a magical place and I definitely did not want to leave. It’s a family-owned business, and the family are glorious people who made us feel incredibly welcome.

Our room was very big, with antique furniture and stained-glass windows. It’s in a great location, walkable to anywhere in Stone Town.

I woke up early every morning because I couldn’t wait to get to the beautiful roof terrace for breakfast and the superb view.

We had a special request, and the family went out of their way to help us. They truly went above and beyond. You would never see that kind of service at one of the bigger hotels. The personal attention is unparalleled. I can’t wait to return!

If you're the sort of traveller that demands the highest of luxury and amenities then look away now. The Abuso has none of these things.

What it does have is charm, a great personality, the most abundantly helpful and pleasant staff, a brilliant location, clean rooms and a wonderful rooftop veranda.

I stayed for two weeks on business and came to grow very fond of the place. The breakfast is simple but delicious (fresh fruit, tasty cinnamon buns, etc).

This is a very basic hotel, let's not deny this fact. There's no TV in the room, only a communal fridge in the public area on each floor and they don't sell alcohol. But so what? Stone Town and Zanzibar needs exploring and you just need somewhere to sleep, on the subject of which, the bed was comfortable!

It's all about context and in the context of a low-price, basic hotel this is absolutely fine.

I mentioned good services. When leaving, I had a driver booked to take me to the airport. With time marching on and no sign of the driver (or responses to my attempts to contact him), the owner of the hotel offered to drive me there himself - for which he refused to accept any payment or tip. Can't imagine many other hotel managers doing this!

Room tip: If you're a light sleeper, request a room to the back of the hotel as the main road can get a little noisy into the early hours.

If you are looking for relative cheap accomodation in centre of old town, you are on the right place! No need for car/taxi, because you are 5 minutes by foot from everything. Nice breakfast place on top of the building. All rooms with AC, clean but little rustic. ;)
Frendly stuff.
