We are 11 of us ( 4 children, 6 adults and 1 senior citizen)who have checked into the hotel on Sunday May 27th but its a disappointing stay.
1. Rooms allotted were in four different sections and luggage arrived after a long wait of over an hour.
2. We get to the dining room and are told that DRINKING WATER is chargeable. And if we take our own water we will be charged for it.
3. Lunch buffet could have been better planned to cater to the Indian pallete as a lot of guests were heard complaining that there was nothing for the vegetarians since the hotel does take pride in serving a variety of Indian fare.
4. Last night at the Veda there was just ONE PIECE of starter that was served and we were told that starters are not repeated and niether soup nor
desserts.
5. Having gathered in one room before dinner for fun and games, when we asked for extra glasses we were told that there are only two glasses that are given per room. We had to give four room numbers before we were obliged with glasses and ice.

Coming from as far as India and choosing the Intercontinental for our stay does not seem the right decision.

I waited for over a week to let my experience with Intercontinental sink in, so that my review is objective and not biased. All things considered, I'm settling for a 3 star rating which would have been a 1 star had it been based on the experience of the first 2 days. But there were some redeeming factors. The biggest plus was the friendliness and courtesy of the staff. Mr. Jit, Sookesh, Yuvraj and Noorina (from Blue Sensation) are some names that come to mind who were very courteous and pleasant to interact with. Overall, the property is also well set though a tad below 5 star standards, if you were to compare with other 5 star properties around the world. I would give them bonus points for their wifi network.

Now coming to the problems, and there were many but I'll stick to just 1 pressing issue - shocking lack of coordination and ownership. And that really messed up the experience, not just for my family but reading the comments here, I believe many guests felt the same. Anyone travelling to Mauritius has been through a long flight and road journey so they would expect a quick and easy check in process so that they can relax and prepare for the rest of their vacation. This is something even 2 star hotels get right. But we were kept waiting for over an hour with no explanation or ETA on the process. Upon creating a bit of noise, we were told rooms weren't ready. This is the worst explanation to give a guest who has made reservations 3 months in advance. Whose problem is it, that you cannot figure out how many rooms to keep ready ? We also faced a lot of problems getting vegetarian baby food (simple lentil rice) mostly because between the room service staff, restaurant staff and the kitches - no one wanted to take ownership of the issue and kept passing the buck and connecting us to other staff. It was frustrating.

I'll not dwell more on this as I think a few other reviews here have gone into more detail. All I'll say is this hotel has many things going for them to make it a great experience for its guests. But to get there, there's a lot they need to fix mainly in terms of staff who are willing to step up and solve problems for their guests. Lack of accountability is killing the experience here.

Pathetic service. Bell boy didn’t help me to get my luggage out from the luggage room. Took an appointment for spa services a couple of days before only to know that they didn’t punch it in their computer which created a lot of confusion. Spa receptionist being very rude. Requested for extra towels and was still waiting after an hour for them to come. Tried to book for the indian restaurant Veda 2 days prior, didn’t get saying the restaurant was full. Just got one day in my 4 nights stay. My room no. Was 1722 check in 24th may. Check out 28th may.

Facilities are excellent. Staff are courteous and most helpful in all matters. The buffet spread for breakfast and dinner are wonderful. Indian corner and chefs, especially are a delight. Only suggestion that Indian corner be provided at lunch time also.

Room Tip: best views, swimming pools
