Were looking for a weekend getaway and were very happy with our choice. The resort is quaint, very friendly and definitely family oriented. All our questions were quickly answered and our requests complied with. In fact, the staff went out of their way to accomodate my husband who is an amateur photographer. It was raining on Saturday and they allowed him to use the bar ,which was closed until 5, as a quiet, private area for his work.
Our room was clean and well appointed with air conditioning. The food was good and our waiter catered to all our dietary requests. We will certainly return for another visit.

Room Tip: Higher floor is quieter but there is no elevator.

We celebrated a cousins weekend at this small resort in the Catskills. Food was included and a bar on site seemed convenient. Folks seem to go back year after year to this getaway. But without nostalgia of the place at its best, it felt like it had slept for 100 years.

Service was great! Our waiter, Mike, was fun and engaging. Bartender was friendly and made a good martini. Front desk was helpful and had lots of equipment for pool and tennis court. Unfortunately it rained a lot so no tennis and outdoor pool wasn’t opened yet. Indoor pool was a pleasant surprise, but full of kids most of weekend. Bonfire was fun but limited seating. No marshmallows or sticks.

The place is tired and needs some cleaning and updating. There was a bowling alley but only one really functioning lane.... ping pong/pool table and Game room, but stunk of mildew and change machine wasn’t operating ... our room was comfortable but no tv, no hairdryer, no phone, no air conditioning. They did bring a fan up from the basement-yikes. Meals are decent and included, but food had same brown gravy on everything. Everything just seemed in a state of disrepair or lacking a good cleaning and new paint.

Cost was fairly inexpensive, but was surprised to find room rate was per person when we checked out.

If someone sinks some investments into updating, I’ll happily return to enjoy the beautiful front porch at sunset drink in hand and then walk to Brau House for some dancing and music.

Greetings,

Thank you for your recent stay at Winter Clove and taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate your kind and thoughtful words about our staff and service and I will be sure to pass them on to Mike, the front desk staff and Stacey in the bar as everyone at Winter Clove works hard to ensure our guest enjoy their stay to the fullest. With that being said I am very concerned to hear that you did not fully enjoy your stay with us.

To begin with the bonfire, I honestly am not sure what happened as we always provide marshmallows and sticks... after all a campfire with out marshmallows is just a fire! I apologize for this shortcoming that you experienced.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve and have recently hired an individual to refurbish all of our bowling lanes and are also looking into improvements for the downstairs ping pong area of the Carriage House as well. We have several hair dryers and irons available at the desk however our historic building does not allow us to provide them each room. We also put A/C units into all of our rooms in mid spring/early summer as we realize the summer heat can become uncomfortable.

All in all I hope you realize my response is not an excuse for the service and experience you received but rather a commitment to you that we are dedicated to constant improvement and would love the opportunity to show you that your stay was an exception rather than our standard,

Sincerely,
Lenore W., Owner

My girlfriend and I wanted an all-inclusive and quiet getaway from NYC for a few days and stumbled on Winter Clove. If you're looking for a place that caters to millenials this is definitely not it but it was frankly perfect for us, and it clearly is geared more towards families, weddings, seniors and couples looking for a slower paced and easy going hideaway. The inn itself is quaint, charming and oozing with history and character - I couldn't help but feel that I was in The Shining when walking the halls at night, and this is totally meant as a compliment, the atmosphere of the place is fantastic. Our room was spacious and comfortable with the only drawback being no AC, but it was early May and the nights cooled down rapidly. The food was good though not super exciting but we enjoyed our meals, and the bar that opens onto the porch was a very nice touch. There are many hiking trails adjacent to the property with varying degrees of difficulty, and of course a beautiful waterfall a few feet into the woods. Overall, we're ready to go back next year to try out some more vigorous hikes and to spend time in the outdoor pool.

We take great pride in being a place where families and friends can come together to relax, unplug and reconnect with each other and nature and it sounds like that is exactly what you did! We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Went for a long weekend with family. If you hate TV, this is the place for you. It truly is a place to be a family. There is one TV in the "living room" so you will have to agree and share. This is a 200 yr old Inn. Same family has been running it for 5 generations. All meals are included and you will NOT be hungry. There is hiking, indoor and outdoor pools, pool table, bowling alley and all the nature you can handle. Our room had an extremely comfortable 4 poster king sized bed. I found it hard to get up on the mattress but once i was up there - it was great. Our bathroom was rather small and could use an exhaust fan. Our room was nicely decorated but SO hot. WE had to ask for a screen so we could sleep with the window open. If we had a fan - it would have been so much better. Well - we did ask - but never got one. I ceiling fan would be a great addition. The inn has wallpaper through out and it is just perfect. It would have been nicer if our food was actually hot when it got to our table. The front desk was manned every now and then but the staff and owner was very nice and friendly. I would have liked an elevator since our room was on the second floor but it was probably a good thing after eating so much. I do believe you would have a different experience with each different season.

Room Tip: the front room of the inn will have the best view

Hi Karen,

Thank you for your recent stay at Winter Clove Inn and for taking the time to leave a review. We take great pride in being a place where people can come together and reconnect with each other while relaxing and enjoying the scenic Catskill Mountains and it sounds like that is exactly what you did. I apologize that you did not receive the fan you requested and beginning in mid May all of the rooms receive air conditioners to help combat the summer heat, perhaps we will look into adding them to the rooms earlier in the spring.

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you again soon.

Quaint x 1000! An old, historic building with creaky stairs and old fashioned window panes, old poster beds, quilts and great old furniture! My sister and I visited with our daughters during the worst week of weather and still had great, relaxing fun. The kids enjoyed exploring this great place, with a favorite room serving tea and books on shelves. While it rained and snowed during the day we played in the heated pool, played games in the sitting room and tinkered on the piano. At night we crossed the street to the old bowling alley that also offered a billiards table, jukebox, and small game room. Weather only permitted a small hike but I was able to view their beauty and know they have great trails if you get the chance to venture further. They even offered a bonfire and a visit to their sap house to watch maple syrup being made. I can only imagine visiting in summer! Great customer service and fair prices with meals included. The meals were good, though maybe limited if vegan etc, but they will pack you a picnic if you are going out for the day! We just had a nice relaxing time, while the girls had tons of fun. If you want to amp up the excitement there are a lot of nearby activities within a few minutes to an hour's drive. We loved our stay.
