This is a great destination for young and old and should not be missed. There are over 60 original fire fighting vehicles, from hand operated bucket brigade transports to stylized horse drawn carriages to the more familiar fire engines of the last 100 years. Lots of information accessible to all ages, with historical background from Roman times to present day. Seriously. If you are at all curious about the evolution of firefighting or if you have a child or grandchild who loves fire engines this is a superb spot. For the young there are lots of hands on games and opportunities for participatory learning!

I recently drove up to Hudson to see this museum. My public library provided me with a free pass. It was well worth the drive. The collection of fire apparatus is terrific ranging from horse-drawn wagons thru about the 60's or 70's. The trucks were in great shape and I learned a lot from the exhibits. Although it's not a children's museum there are some hands-on demonstrative "stations" that the kids can utilize. As an adult, I learned from these exhibits and think they are fascinating. I was impressed by the large collection of firefighter patches that were donated by firefighters to the museum. Some are real works of art and they come from all over the world. I was impressed to learn that there is also a home for senior retired volunteer firefighters on the grounds. The buildings are beautiful as is the view of the Catskill Mountains. The staff at the museum was helpful and very courteous. I whole-heartedly recommend you visit the museum.

A must see!...The History alone and being able to see the way fires were fought with the most awesome preservation of the fire engines and all the artifacts from years past was just mind blowing!

My wife and I discovered this wonderful museum on a Sunday morning while touring Hudson, on our way to Olana. We arrived at opening and were the only guests at that early hour. The museum is large. You need well over an hour to navigate both floors without stopping to read and review all exhibits; otherwise allocate a few hours. You are shown a brief movie upon your entrance about the museum's history and directions for your self tour. We enjoyed engaging with a few employees, learning more about the museum as we toured. There are numerous well preserved artifacts, engines, and displays throughout the clean and well maintained museum. We were pleased to see that this museum caters to school children, as class tours and educational programs are available. We also enjoyed seeing the Christmas displays on numerous engines, alerting children to the hazards of fire during the holidays; guidance is offered by Penny the Penguin and Mittens the Kitten to name a few. Of course on your way out there is a well represented gift store.
