Great food and service. Worth the visit - not far from town. Enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail in the lovely bar. Real fire for those chilly evenings.

We had lunch at Miko. We ordered fish, salad and vegetables. That and a bottle of Mont Rochelle wine. Everything was cooked well and delicious. The service was attentive without being obtrusive. The room itself is absolutely lovely.

A five start hotel restaurant should provide the same level of experience as the rest of the hotel and in fact should be one of the highlights of a stay. Unfortunately this was not the case for us.
We booked many weeks ahead, explaining that our evening meal was to celebrate a special birthday. No table had been reserved and we were placed in the rear section without a view. We found the serving staff to be generally dismissive, unhelpful and almost preoccupied. After our first glasses of water and wine we had to serve our own.
The food was very well presented but we were underwhelmed by the flavours (in fact one of our dishes - pumpkin orzo with marinated cucumber and fennel, shaved patty pans and pine nut oil - was so bland and one-dimensional that even correct seasoning would not have improved it. The carrot and ponzu soup was served with braised endive, apple and hazelnut tapenade and fermented black garlic yoghurt but the flavours of none of these adornments were distinct and, again, the whole dish needed a twist of seasoning. The carrot cake was a deconstructed failure in both presentation and taste. Our mains faired better, with a competently cooked piece of springbok loin and a good - but no more - fillet of trout.
Better meals can be had - and were by us - down the road in Franschhoek. Based on our experience at Miko we would find it difficult to recommend it and if we return to Mont Rochelle I think we will find it hard to return to Miko. That is a very great shame but an opportunity to reflect and improve.
We mentioned our concerns in our hotel checkout feedback but a week later have had no contact from the restaurant team.

This is in the Mont Rochelle hotel. Milo was the former owner. The food is beautifully presented and of high quality. I thoroughly enjoyed both my meals as did my partner. My first experience of springbok, very good.
