This was our third visit to Akademie Street and we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Franschhoek. The service given by everyone, led by Declan, Meena and Stacey, is first class. We will miss their wonderful breakfasts and our luxurious room, and look forward to another visit at the earliest opportunity. No expense has been spared and so much effort has been put into making this a world class guest house, yet the atmosphere is such that you feel right at home. If you get the opportunity, go there!

We had a wonderful few days in the luxurious Akademie Street Guest House. It is in a lovely quiet tree-lined street within easy walking distance of the Main Street in Franschoek and the Huguenot Museum in the town. Lots of lovely restaurants close by.
The proprietor,Declan and his staff could not be more welcoming and helpful. The hotel is spread over several adjoining buildings, radiating out from the reception and breakfast/pool area. The decor is elegant, quirky in some aspects and restrained in others, but overall in excellent taste, with the emphasis on comfort and luxury. There are some extremely thoughtful touches, such as free laundry and a pianist visiting in the evening who plays in the main reception room, while you lounge on one of the comfortable sofas, sipping your (free) G&T, flicking through the many magazines and books and mulling the next move on your South Africa journey. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Akademie Street Boutique Hotel with Declan as your host caters for every sense and wish. He and his staff are clearly proud and protective of their already famous reputation. No detail is spared, no wish unfullfilled. Although you might wonder if you can afford the luxury; all is inclusive and therefore no hidden costs. Close enough to stroll to the center of town but far away to only hear nature. The private in-house piano recital ranging from very modern to classic with fire, fine whiskey and brandy was a relaxing way to meet other guests and get into the mood before dinner. Thank you, Declan and staff! Mirna and Melinda

I don't even know where to start, everything about this property was just amazing. The property to start off with is absolutely beautiful and so tastefully decorated with every last detail thought of. The staff were just wonderful, we mainly dealt with Declan who was the friendliest and most welcoming person and very willing to help with anything that we needed from things to do to booking us a car and restaurants or lending us some bikes for the day. There was free champagne in the room as well as free ports, brandies in the drawing room around the fireplace which you can enjoy with other guests if you so wish or you can take back to your room. The breakfast was delicious, there was everything you could possibly want on offer and all made to the highest standard and served in the very beautiful breakfast room. Unfortunately we were there in winter so didn't get to enjoy the pool but it looked really lovely. The property is a five minute walk from the centre of town so also very well placed. We honestly wouldn't hesitate to return, absolutely no complaints.
Thanks Declan and the team for everything - we will definitely be back one day.

We recently stayed at this wonderful boutique guesthouse in the newly refurbished cottage. In fact we were the first guests to stay there which was extra special. The whole guesthouse has been very tastefully decorated with 'moody' colours ,large modern paintings and lovely furniture. The cottage with its two beautiful apartments is stunning ...very spacious with underfloor heating and no expense spared fittings and furniture. Outside there is a small pool and an outside heated tub . The lighting inside and out of the cottage and in the grounds of the guesthouse has been carefully thought through. and looks delightful at night. The guesthouse is centrally situated and within walking distance of many excellent restaurants. The friendly atmosphere ,beautiful surroundings ,excellent staff and attention to detail make a stay at Akademie Street Guesthouse a joy . Congratulations to all the staff and especially to Declan and Paul for creating such a lovely place to stay !
