We had a wonderful few days in the luxurious Akademie Street Guest House. It is in a lovely quiet tree-lined street within easy walking distance of the Main Street in Franschoek and the Huguenot Museum in the town. Lots of lovely restaurants close by.
The proprietor,Declan and his staff could not be more welcoming and helpful. The hotel is spread over several adjoining buildings, radiating out from the reception and breakfast/pool area. The decor is elegant, quirky in some aspects and restrained in others, but overall in excellent taste, with the emphasis on comfort and luxury. There are some extremely thoughtful touches, such as free laundry and a pianist visiting in the evening who plays in the main reception room, while you lounge on one of the comfortable sofas, sipping your (free) G&T, flicking through the many magazines and books and mulling the next move on your South Africa journey. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. More
