Akademie street Boutique Hotel is a true boutique hotel. Every part of it was beautifully styled. We had a warm welcome from the kind and passionate Scottish manager Declan. He showed us around, made sure we got our restaurant reservations for both evenings, and told us everything we needed to know about the lovely Franschhoek.

At this hotel, the philosophy seems te be to give guests everything they could wish for, and more. The best whiskeys and brandys are complementary on a table near the lovely fireplace, you just have to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere. Our room was stunning, with a beautiful bathroom, big comfortable bed and a patio where a delicious and fresh breakfast was served. We felt totally spoiled.

When traveling in warmer days, a nice pool is added to al this and you will not need to or want to go anywhere else. I would recommend at least three days in this lovely hotel and beautiful area.

Room Tip: All the rooms have been refurnished recently. From what we could tell, they are all wonderful.

We stayed at this beautiful hotel for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon, and were so sad to leave. We have stayed in many impressive hotels over the years but were blown away by both the quality and the incredible hospitality here. Declan's warmth and generosity knows no bounds. He could not do enough to ensure our stay was perfect. The suites are large and every detail has been thought out (huge beds, underfloor heating, log fires, electric blankets and fully stocked complimentary minibar to name but a few). The lounge and outdoor areas are beautifully decorated and so inviting, helped by the log fires and selection of local wines on offer. Aside from all of this, the most outstanding aspect of this hotel was Declan and his team. He is a true gentleman and his warm manner and brilliant banter hugely contribute to the overall charm of this hotel. Stacey is also very impressive and the staff are clearly so dedicated to their various roles, which all contribute to making the place such a pleasure to stay in. In our view, this personal touch from Declan and his team makes Akademie Street Boutique so special and serves as a perfect example of why we will always favour this boutique over any chains or more corporate guest houses/hotels on our return to Franschoek. It really is a home away from home and we can't wait to go back!

My only problem with this beautiful hotel was the length of time we stayed!! We stayed in Franschhoek for two nights and I wish it had been for longer. Declan is the perfect host, it was like staying with a friend, and the staff are amazing. The hotel has recently been renovated and every detail has been thought of. Our room was beautiful with a wood burning stove, that we lit constantly it was such a novelty. Breakfast was amongst the best I have ever had. Everything in the mini bar was included and replenished if needed, and the evening drinks in the drawing room with the fire was a lovely touch. If you want perfection this is it, and it is worth every penny, you need not look at any other hotel. We can't wait to come back.

I chose Akademie based on past reviews. The Inn has a great location and is very unique. My suite was extremely comfortable and had all of the comforts one would want from a luxury setting. The breakfasts were fantastic and of the most memorable I have experienced. Akademie is a cut above all others when it comes to service. Everyone that works here know they represent a phenomenal property, and match the level of service to the surroundings. They are friendly, sincere, caring and strive to make your holiday the best. There is nothing that they will not do in order for you enjoy Franschhoek to the max. I cannot speak highly enough about the 2 nights we spent here. There is so much to do, you need 3 nights. Stay here and it may be the highlight of your visit to South Africa.

Room Tip: Splurge for a villa.

This is gonna be the lengthiest review I've ever written but everyone needs to know about this great place!

PRE-TRIP
I was torn between Akademie and another established hotel. I was more inclined towards Akademie for its unique beauty. I sent an email enquiry to the hotel and promptly received a customised reply from Declan. He went above and beyond to answer my queries and in areas unsure, he pointed me to the right guys who could help. After an exchange of a couple of emails, I was sold and made a booking.

HOTEL STAY
1. Location
- Excellent. 5 min walk to the main street where you will find nice restaurants, woolworths food, montage dried fruits shop, wine tram ticketing box/meeting point.
- If you not drive (like us), we were able to get an uber to another restaurant/farm Babylonstoren (also highly recommended! the sweet potato fries ooooh) which was under SGD30. Not too expensive considering the journey took about 20-30 minutes. No problem getting an uber back to the hotel either.
- Hotel is located on a quiet and peaceful street between the police station and main street.

2. Lounge
You will find a good variety of drinks, nibbles and manyyy books! Look into some of the books and you may find something interesting. I found a newspaper cutting from way back. I wonder where all the books came from! There's also a piano and nice fireplace which kept us warm and nice!

3. Oortuiging
That's our room and it's G O R G E O U S ! There's a wood-fired outdoor hot tub, well-stocked mini bar, study area, super king bed (i had more than two-arm-length space from my husband)!, another lovely indoor bath tub and your usual toilet stuff, done in a really classy manner. Love it.

4. Other Facilities and Services
- In-room dining which we really enjoyed. Variety was great and portion, big! I would actually prefer a smaller serving to prevent wastage.
- Laundry! Thank God! We came from a Safari at Kruger and did some hiking before. The staff did our laundry at no additional cost. Left me speechless when I saw that they did not just wash our clothes but pressed them too! :o
- There's a common outdoor swimming pool
- A computer room with printing services
- ETC!

PEOPLE
We've stayed in various accommodations, ranging from hostels, low-mid range hotels, and a few other more luxurious ones. And Akademie Street Boutique Hotel is by far the BEST hotel we've ever been.

This is definitely not possible if not for the kind people we met during our 2-night stay. From Declan who's boss, to Chris the superhero and the beautiful ladies who brought us breakfast and went all out to make our stay a very comfortable and enjoyable one. THANK YOU! Everyone appeared to be genuine in establishing a relationship.

This is why I will say yes, yes, and yes to coming back if I ever visit again.

If you are still considering, just do it. You will not regret it and you will certainly be well-cared for.

I am in no way related to the hotel but I am very touched by the impeccable service and unforgettable stay.

Enjoy! :)

Room Tip: Pick a room that you like! I personally liked the one we stayed in most.
