The place is physically beautiful. The service is the problem, and I gave them the benefit of the doubt on a prior disappointing visit, but the last time was worse. We arrived by car around noon and hoped to have lunch. We were told by the hostess that there was no lunch, only a charcuterie board or snacks to accompany a drink. We decided to stay for a drink, and then go elsewhere. We waited 20 minutes to be served a drink while staff drifted around (and the place was not all that busy.) Eventually, while we were still waiting, I noticed people seated at tables about 10 yards away (same premises) who were being served lunches. I wasn't sure if maybe that was a private party, so I asked the hostess about it—I said "are they serving lunch over there? Is lunch available?" and she said something like, "oh, there's no lunch here, it's over there." Meaning that we should have simply been seated over there, when we said we were there for lunch? We left. And I won't be going back, because Franschhoek is loaded with nice places that seem to value your business.
Most disgusting restaurant
Microwaved slighly off dry porkbelly
Which is still giving me problems even though I had only 1 bite before sending it back
My wife had the lamb which was most definitely also not freshly prepared but
Microwave heated and drowned in gravy
For an upmarket location with upmarket prices an absolute no go
Even complaining to management made us feel we are talking to a tree instead of a competent restaurant manager who cares about his clients and the image of her
Facility
Avoid eating there at all cost
Stopped here for alfresco lunch and was not disappointed. The sirloin starter was amazing as was the beetroot. The main courses of pork belly and line fish maintained the high standard. Only downside was the mango dessert which was trying too hard to taste of something and ended up being rather anaemic, hence the 4 star rating.
There are a lot of sculptures in the garden and a small art gallery with all items in show being for sale. Not to everyone’s taste but interesting to be sure.
Me and my friends visited Franschhoek to try out varieties of wineries. Grande Provence wine estate was our first choice. When you enter the gate the signs are clear but you cannot find the one that says tasting room. We drove in after being directed by the security lady. When we got there no one paid attention to us as we kept asking to do a wine tasting. There was tables outside and some reserved. When we asked this person directs us to that one. That one doesn't pay attention to us. It was a beautiful day. Beautiful location but the service we received was very very poor. I don't know if they were short staffed or what but we were not treated as guests who came to taste wine. Poor service left us to leave the area and go to the next wineries nearby where we received a wonderful service. From the parking you get a golf card to direct you to the tasting room. Where we met a wonderful lady who greeted us with a smile and directed us accordingly. From poor service to a 5 star service we received in the end. I wouldn't recommend Grande Provenance to any of our guests.
