We were advised that our trip from OR Tambo should be less than 4 hours so we put our trust in the AVIS supplied GARMIN GPS to get us there. It Failed and our journey took us near 6 and that included a trip to Pretoria. Then we actually got there having doubled the distance the direct route was we had missed our included lunch. Lesson learned have a map and copy of the route before trusting a GPS you never used before.
It is actually very easy to get there and we want to return.
We had missed our included lunch and nearly jeopardised our Afternoon tea and Game Drive but Zerp and Lerato ensured we missed nothing delaying the game drive departure with the consent of the couple already ready for the drive to start.
The selection of animals was a surprise , the setting and the sunset had us relaxed and ready for our dinner after settling into #7.
We were booked as a standard room but this room is no standard hotel box and the balcony view spoilt us .
With the driving of the first day after Breakfast my Lady wife thought she deserved a Massage which was quickly arranged. While the body was well kneaded and it was an enjoyable experience she wished that it was not as Basic. Dawson's has a massage room but no music or Aromas were there to enhance the experience. Little things like that do make a big difference. In that her verdict "Could do better".
So off we went for our Quad bike drive after a enjoyable lunch, While I waited in the front of the building my wife was practicing in the car park to the back. Nobody paid any attention to the "lost looking individual to the front who was reunited only after checking our Room and all the public rooms for the missing wife.
Even then we lost time as our escort was in no rush and had no apparent interest in what we hoped the Quad trip would entail. Helmeted up we got moving slowly for me at first but speeded up as my confidence grew and I got comfortable with the position. Our escort did regularly look around to ensue even slow coach was to the rear.
Photography of the animals we saw was not assisted by the helmets visor, our Leader not slowly approaching the animals or actually understanding that the everyday to him is the reason to travel for us.
When his quad started cutting out usually after he enjoyed the "Donut - making" we did not have a lot of sympathy.
I had hoped to get another 16.00 game drive at my expense as our booking included one activity per day. With the late start and the guides breakdown time had marched on and even leading the way back did not return in time to catch it. Not as big a disappointment as it could be as the Quad trip was age reverting and memories of bikes and scooters gave it an edge.
Overall a great place to just find calm it has charm and the staff are its key but details bring up the standard not corner cutting.

Beautiful house in English style with many hideout places in and around the house. Very friendly staff and nice rooms with a garden. Sad we were the only guests. The reserve around this house has all kinds of animals (but the big 5, so you can walk the reserve), waterfalls and just stunning nature.

We used this as a stop over for two nights on out way back from kruger national park to Howick. It was perfect place to relax. Staff were very helpful. We stayed in crooked cottage which is the best kept secret... Loved it

Staying over at this wonderful place is always such a treat!
When we got there, Zeph and his staff were ready with our stunning lunch of peppered trout with salad.
The rooms are beautifully spaceous, with a great bathroom.
There is plenty to to at this game and trout lodge or just laying about if you want to.
Supper was a 3 course meal with to choices for each course. Our friends were pleasantly surprise of the quality and tastiness of the food!
Breakfast the nex morning consists of yogurt, fruit, and a homemade muesli that was utterly delicious! That was followed up by a choice of hot breakfast, eggs benedict, spicy scramble eggs wrapped in Salmon, home stead breakfast, consisting of bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tamato, and then, not for the faint hearted, waffles with almost every topping! the one I like, was the french toast with honey and crispy bacon!
Well done guys! Keep up the good work!
See you soon!
