We took a tour which lead us to Hoover Dam. What an amazing structure and beautiful waters. I would stop by again with more time .

We took a day trip from Vegas to have a look at Hoover Dam and the new Bypass bridge (new from when I last visited). Parked in the parking lot next to the bridge and walked over the whole length of the bridge and read the plaques about the building of it. Amazing project and great views of Hoover Dam and the lake.

The view is spectacular! This huge marvel is awesome in the full sense of the word. Unless you're really into engineering, history or teaching your kids about turbines, you can skip the visitors' center, and save yourself $10 and 30 minutes of your life. I also recommend renting a car and driving yourself out there, and not take a bus tour (unless, of course, you're hungover). The drive takes only 30 minutes and is well worth it. While there, you don't need to spend more than 30 minutes admiring the place.

There is an exit (the road leading to the Hoover Dam Visitor Center) near the west end of the bridge bypass that takes you to a parking area, where you can park and visit outdoor exhibits explaining the construction of the bridge and honoring the two persons to whom the bridge was dedicated as memorials. It is approximately a 10-minute walk uphill via either steps or an inclined hard-surface switchback path that is disability-accessible to the sidewalk that allows you walk across the bridge on the bridge's north side facing towards Hoover Dam. A great place for photos of the dam and the Colorado river gorge at the bridge's mid-point!

This was a very interesting trip. There was something mechanically wrong with the elevators I believe, so there were no tours given this day. It was still very interesting and very informative to walk around. The men in the group, were extremely interested in all of the history and architecture of the damn. The views were amazing. Would definitely do this again and if the tour was available we would all take it.
