Historic and useful, Union Station, KCMO, was more than a museum, restaurant or shopping place. We put a child on a train bound for the other end of the state, St. Louis, MO. I appreciate historic ambiance, such as sitting in wooden benches waiting for the thundering locomotive to rumble in. I appreciate that we have a working station that still accepts and sends passengers. St. Louis' Union Station is a mall. Ours is a real train depot, with real trains and real train employees. That alone sets us apart. Getting in and out, loading and waiting, watching your child wave to you as the passenger car (which for minors under 16 means they ride in a car with railroad employees assigned to care for them) and retrieving them from a great experience they still remember years later. I end my review regarding the station, with permanent & temporary exhibits, a planetarium & a science center, and on the route of the downtown "streetcar", opposite the WWI Museum, with our child's comment at the end of the trip: Will you let me do that again? Yep.
