Beautiful property surrounded by grove-covered mountains with a wonderful sandy beach looking out onto a small bay. The cuisine at the various hotel restaurants was top notch. The Saturday dinner "soirees" are a thing to be experience, but be warned that there you are treated with truly copious amounts of varied, astonishingly beautifully presented, high quality and, therefore, irresistible food, so think twice if you are in the calories-counting cohort. Same would go for the full board option. Wifi worked great, including on the beach. I recommend a walk around one of the nature trails through the surrounding hills, with a cool cave tunnel along the way. To purchase basic necessities, you need to go off the hotel premises to a convenience shop in the adjacent town, but it is within walking distance.
The place is first and foremost geared towards Italian vacationers, so visitors from other countries, like ourselves, may need to understand certain cultural aspects, i.e. spots at the beach being assigned by the hotel, bookings needing to be made individually with each restaurant or service provider, rather than centrally via the hotel reception, and some the staff initially coming across as having an air of respectful aloof formality, which takes a bit to get accustomed to, but once you learn to look past it, you will get to see and appreciate their hospitality. We stayed in this hotel in September, 2015.
The property is truly amazing.
The grounds, and gardens are very well maintained, and manicured.
The room was beautiful.
The maid service was extremely attentive.
Seemed like they changed your towels after every use.
Our room was always kept spotless.
We never saw them but we could tell that they kept checking the room every time we left.
The beach is spectacular.
The finest beach we saw on the whole island was right in front of the hotel.
The beach was cleaned and daily by the staff and had plenty of chairs and umbrellas available.
The pool areas were very impressive.
We had two pools, two jacuzzis, and a kids pool at our disposal.
We had booked the half board with breakfast and dinner included every day.
Make sure the men have long pants for dinner service.
It is sort of formal and shorts are not allowed.
The food is excellent.
Usually a five course gourmet meal every night.
The service in the dining room is absolutely top notch.
Breakfast on the terrace is wonderful.
The only warning we can give is if you are afraid of, or allergic to honeybees, there are many bees buzzing around the terrace during breakfast.
They don't really bother you too much but we are not afraid of them and think that they're kind of neat.
Overall, we would highly recommend this hotel.
It is one of the best properties that we have stayed in.

Fantastic hotel in every way. Staff at desk helpful as we're all the staff. Excellent location . Would suggest worth paying extra for a sea view room but difficult to find fault . Food was excellent. The half board was good value . Beautiful bay. 5 swimming pools . Looking forward to returning.

We had a room quite high up in the property, which gave us all the peace and quiet we were looking for. Decor is a little dated, but the size of rooms and service more than makes up for this.

Wifi is available everywhere on the property, including the beach. A named/personal set of beach loungers that were ours all week really is a lovely touch.

Room Tip: Just talk to the wonderful staff on reception, what they dont know is not worth knowing!

These are the guys who invented luxury stays on Elba. 60 years later, the hotel remains my reference on the island: not perfect, not grand, but really good to spend time in family. Well done, Hermitage!
