we stayed in one of the bungalow-rooms on the very top of the hill, at night only the chirping of cicades. The rooms are clean, staff is friendly. Biodola-Beach is a few steps away. Good hotel for a relaxing holiday

On the positive side, this hotel has some of the better rates in the area of La Biodola, which is a beautiful bay with a lovely sandy beach and crystal clear water. So overall, the beauty of our location made our stay wonderful.

The hotel however is distinctly average and if you stop to remember the price you paid, you will neither feel that the room or the food is worth what you are paying. The service, will good for Italy, makes it feel like you are in a Formula 1 race when eating. You barely sit down and your appetizer is already there, as soon as your plate is empty, the main course arrives. It's like they are trying to get rid of you ASAP. The food was adequate, pasta and fish, and as is typical in Italy, very salty. The portions were tiny but to our waiters credit, he did ask if I wanted some more every time, which I declined. Doesn't hurt to be reasonable! ;) The breakfast spread was bare minimum, we usually skipped it.

The hotel was very close to the beach so that was great, the pool was very nice and quiet. Be prepared to fight for people to respect your space on the beach, even if you rent a space. It seems the Italian clientele has no respect for your space, as soon as you leave they move their chairs into your area with no bother, was kind of annoying to me but apparently normal here. The beach attendant Claudio was very good and helpful.

The pizzas at the hotel's Taverna were good and the beer reasonably priced!

You are staying here for the location, location, location but if we come back to Elba, we will spend 50 euro more and try the Hotel Biodola which looked fantastic and a bit more recent. But this hotel was perfectly adequate, just not memorable.

Finally, it seemed like the Italians don't like foreigners too much, we have never had any trouble any where else being from Canada, but we did not seem to be appreciated by the people here. Never felt that anywhere else, but I was not surprised for various reasons...

A wonderful place to enjoy a family holiday - gorgeous sandy beach and lush green gardens.
Our appartment offered plenty of space for the four of us and was very clean, including a kitchenette and sun beds to enjoy quiet moments of relax.
We loved the food, in particular the fresh fish dishes and pastas. Our waiter was extremely helpful and kind with the kids, fulfilling also "extra" requests. The pizzas at the Taverna dei Pirati were delicious, too!!
We are looking forward to returning next year!

I can honestly say that my wife and I haven’t stayed in such a bad hotel before; it was so bad that it was funny!
The Room: big dark green room with a dim light so very dark. It reminded me of a prison cell or a throwback to the 60’s when the hotel may have had its heyday. In the old falling apart cupboards we found someone’s old socks and cheap necklace in, probably from the 1960’s again, the last time someone stayed in it or the last time it was cleaned. At night I thought the room was haunted...BANG BANG BANG! This turned out to be the plumbing so every time the guy above used the toilet we heard that! By the way we could hear everything from the neighbouring rooms even down the flatulence and everything toilet related.
The Food: this really was a joke, breakfast consisted of a continental style which would normally be ok but I can honestly say that everything was disgusting. I have had better on a cross channel trucker’s ferry, even down to the bread roll, everything was bad! Then as we were digesting this horrible food the waiter appeared to take our lunch menu! I thought he was joking or mad to be taking my lunch order at 8am. He said it was because the food was all made fresh so to give the chef time. What a load of rubbish, when we ate it was worse than breakfast, absolutely disgusting and I heard the microwave ping! Fresh, yeah right.
The Beach: lovely beach apart from who I now know to be the life guard. My wife and I were on loungers at the front when this guy walked up and said “GET OFF”. I said pardon me, he said “OFF”! I told him to get lost then he started shouting and threw my towel of the bed. I went to the hotel reception to complain about the behaviour or one of their guests and was told “oh no that is the life guard!” Apparently people pay to reserve the front row beds years in advance on the off chance they may be passing and want to use it, no one else can in the meantime. We then had to sit at the back with this lifeguard taking the mick out of me in Italian thinking I couldn’t understand him.
The only good points would be location and leaving. Stay at the Hermitage instead like we should have!
