We drove to Acton in hopes of getting a nice meal and
cream tea at this Acton Tea Room. We walked in at 1.00pm
on a Saturday afternoon, the place was totally empty,
we sat down and the waitress brought us the menus.
After a few minutes, I realized the only hot food for a
vegetarian was the quiche, no problem I'd have that,
my husband chose the pasty and soup. The waitress
returned to take our order, I ordered the quiche.....
sorry there is none, she replied, I can do you a
cucumber sandwich. So can I , I thought, I didn't drive
45 mins for a sandwich, so I asked for the raisin scones
cream and jam....we don't have any of those either so
I just ended up having a cup of tea for my lunch, very
disappointing ! My husband had a pasty plonked on a
plate, no garnish, just warmed and his soup, nice but
nothing outstanding. The bill came to a tad over $14,
he went to the cash to pay and handed her a $20 note,
she asked him if he wanted change...she wanted a $6
tip for serving a pasty, soup and two teas...I think not !
The room itself is very plain, plastic tablecloths, mismatched
furniture and a few Brit. knick knacks. We won't be returning
to the tea room but I may pop into the ajoining sweet shop
and bakery sometime when I'm in the area but definitely
won't make a special trip out there !
