The food was amazing - Im vegan and I asked them to prepare a 3 course vegan meal - they didn't flinch - and it was delicious. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel special - even the GM of the resort stopped off at our table! The decor is great - the view of the ocean is spectacular - the staff makes you feel like super stars - and the food was some of the best I've had on Martha's Vineyard. if you haven't been GO!

This restaurant may be fine for families with small children but it is not the place to go for a lovely adult meal. We went to The Dunes to celebrate a birthday and were quite surprised to find that the dining area was overrun with children. They have a special section just for the little ones but the overflow into the main dining room was quite apparent. Fortunately, we had a 7pm reservation and the noise level dropped significantly by 7:30. Our food was fine once the swordfish was sent back to the kitchen to be cooked thoroughly but that meant that two were left with nothing for ten minutes while the others at the table were eating. It was not well handled and gave us an awkward situation. The bar tender gave the smallest pour ever seen and when the glass price is $12 or more one expects a decent serving. The service was below standard as evidenced by the waiter having no idea how to use the pepper mill! It was an expensive night filled with disappointment that we handled with humor. We will not return even thought we live year round just down the road. If you have little kids and want a fine evening, this may be the place for you.

The deck here is beautiful. Enjoyed drinks and desert. The kids could run around on the lawn while we relaxed

This may go down as just a bad experience for our party, but The Dunes really struggled while we were there.

The waiter was not aware of the current stock of specials, so three people had to place an alternate order after finding out that their choice of meal was no longer available. Normally this would be no big deal, but the server then brought out the wrong meal as one of the replacement meals. Fixing this issue took another 15 minutes, at which point we were informed by the manager that desserts would be on the house due to the mix-up.

Okay, sounds good, thank you for your efforts to remedy the situation.

Then when desserts were brought out, the server had an extra dessert that wasn't ordered. She told us that this particular dessert would be on the house, which was odd since they were all on the house already per the manager...okay, no harm done.

Then the bill came out, and we found that we had been billed for an extra meal that we didn't order.

On top of all that, the food was only so-so, and the sommelier's wine recommendations off the all-too-short wine list were mediocre.

Did any of this ruin our evening? No. Do we expect better from a restaurant that charges fine-dining prices? Absolutely. We won't be back to The Dunes the next time we're on the Vineyard...
