My first time writing a review – forgive me if I ramble. If you’re looking for accoms around Southwest Harbor, this place is amazing.
Start the day with a great breakfast – I usually avoid breakfast, but the menu changes daily and there’s always a choice of delicious options to set you up for the day. This historic Inn is located on a quiet street, minutes away from everything SWH has to offer - the legendary Beale’s Lobster Pier is just a block's walk away. The very attractively priced hotel bar offers a cocktail hour most evenings with top notch cheese and charcuterie served on the stylish outdoor patio.
The atmosphere is quiet without being stuffy, there’s a relaxing library with sofas, books and games. The cozy rooms are full of period character – ours had a full-sized claw-toed bathtub for a good soak after a day’s hiking.
Most importantly, not only is the service impeccable, but the staff are genuinely friendly with an encyclopedic knowledge of the area. We have already booked for next year.

We stayed 5 nights and really enjoyed everything about the B & B. The staff was helpful answering questions about activities and gave detailed information for hiking the area. They offered a choice of three options for breakfast and every breakfast that we ate was delicious! We also liked that it's located within a very short walking distance from downtown Southwest Harbor.

We first selected to stay at Harbour Cottage because of the website photos of their sumptuous breakfasts, and we were not disappointed! It was a joy to begin every morning in their lovely breakfast nook or beautiful porch, sustained by these elegant and hearty breakfasts. We also enjoyed a quiet evening on their balcony with wine and their charcuterie platter. The hosts and staff were all so gracious helpful, and well-informed, and we felt so welcomed, like long-time friends. We stayed two nights in the Captain's Nook, and two nights in The Ketch. Both rooms were well-appointed and comfortable. Our only challenge was getting our luggage up the stairs, but Arlo was most kind and accommodating (and strong)! Southwest Harbor is called "the quiet side" of Mt. Desert Island, and it truly is a peaceful and beautiful haven away from the crowded hustle-bustle of Bar Harbor. We highly recommend Harbor Cottage! It will make your visit to Mt. Desert Island a memorable and special stay!

Very attractive inn. Nice, quaint rooms, good breakfasts, very gracious hosts, and very convenient to Acadia Park and walking distance to restaurants in town. Would stay there again if returning to area.

Stayed in the Captain's Nook for 5 nights. Wonderful, peaceful place to stay. Susan, Arlo and the rest of the staff are wonderful and so very helpful. Easy walking distance to the town and a couple restaurants. They just opened a new bar for Monday-Wednesday nights and it drew a lot of locals. Very relaxing and enjoyable sitting out on the patio sipping a drink. Breakfast was excellent. The room had a lot of character and was comfortable. There are a couple of height issues thou for some people, the bathroom is slanted on one side as is the ceiling above the bed which might be a problem for someone on one side of the bed trying to get out. But overall, the stay was very enjoyable and would highly recommend Harbour Cottage Inn to stay at while in the Bar Harbor/Southwest Harbor area.
