Owner description: Travel 650 feet underground into an active salt mine! Experience a cool and soothing subterranean world formed by salt deposits in the Permian Sea long ago. See the raw mine as it was left more than 50 years ago on the Salt Mine Express train ride and catch a guided tour on a tram to the Dark Ride. You won't want to miss a special gallery filled with authentic movie costumes and memorabilia. And don't miss the SALT SAFARI add on tour. A one hour guided adventure tour that goes BEYOND STRATACA. See salt formations not available to the general public until now! Limited capacity -- only 12 visitors at a time depart 3-4 times a day.

Very interesting attraction in Hutchinson, Kansas. You travel 650 feet below the surface into a salt mine. There are exhibits detailing on how salt has been mined here since the early part of the 1900’s. You can take a mini train ride and I recommend the dark ride where you can actually pick out a souvenir piece of salt from the mine. I found this to be a great attraction.

Our local friends recommended that we go to Strataca, and we were not disappointed. This (still working) underground salt mine has a number of features. You descend in an elevator. There is a self-guided tour. Then there is a train ride as well as a ride that goes in a different part of the mine: both with live narration. At the end of the ride, you can pick up a piece of mined salt for free if you want. We really enjoyed this!

I’ve have wanted to come here for some time but wanted to wait until my youngest got a little older. He’s 8 and really liked being “underground.” I was a little afraid that I would become phobic before heading down the elevator. Turns out I had no problems at all. Even with being 650 feet down it had a sense of openness. We giggled when the guide warned us not to lick the walls! Enjoyed the self paced walk through the mine.

We traveled a bit out of our way specifically to see the salt mine. I initially thought the ticket price was a little high, but then we went on the tour and I felt like we got our money's worth! It was very interesting and informative. We enjoyed the walking tour, the train ride, and the dark ride.

Thanks for the review, Our prices are right in line with regional museums. It is very exspensive to maintain a museum 650 feet underground. Super glad you liked it.
