Stoney Creek is my favorite place to spend a romantic couple's Christmas. The first year we did this, it was in a "theme suite with whirlpool" (which also includes a fireplace, mini fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker). This room was located in the main building, and it was spacious while still feeling cozy. Last year, we booked the same type of room, but were automatically upgraded to the next level--which put us in what their website calls a "cottage theme suite with whirlpool" (but includes, again: a fireplace, mini fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker). This suite was located in a separate building--The Cottages at Stoney Creek, I believe they call it. The bedroom was more separate from the living area than in our previous suite, with both areas having their own flat screen television. The room also had windows that looked out into a wooded area, and we could watch the snow fall as we warmed ourselves in front of the fireplace or relaxed in the whirlpool. This suite was almost 300 sq ft bigger than our former one, and while I would highly recommend either, it was by far my favorite.
I have found that early check-in is usually accommodated at this location, and check-in itself is normally quite fast. Breakfast is your typical hotel fare. A staff member is usually available to cook a few things to order for you, should you be so inclined, so...Stoney Creek is my favorite place to spend a romantic couple's Christmas. I have found that early check-in is usually accommodated at this location, and check-in itself is normally quite fast. Breakfast is your typical hotel fare. A staff member is usually available to cook a few things to order for you, should you be so inclined, so be sure to have cash for a tip. The rooms themselves are in good repair--I have no complaints with my experiences. Wi-Fi in the Cottages building appeared to be a little unreliable, as we tried streaming Netflix/Hulu/HBO Go on my tablet and were often interrupted by bouts of buffering or disconnection. It wasn't irritating enough for me to complain about--it was a holiday, after all.
Stoney Creek's "Smart Travel Rewards" program is probably the best hotel rewards program I've ever seen. Just being enrolled (which is free) gets you an automatic room upgrade (as long as there is availability), which can take you from a nice suite to a spectacular suite without you paying a penny more. Plus, it's very easy to accumulate points--if you get a suite for a couple of nights, chances are you've spent enough to get at least $25 worth of points, which you can then use on your next visit.
Overall, I highly recommend the suites in this hotel for couples looking for a short, romantic, let's-stay-in-our-room getaway.More
