The decor of the Des Lux is percect for traveling to downtown Des Moines. We also enjoyed the unique decor and fireplace in our room. The bed was very comfortable, and it was convenient to have two sinks in the bathroom.

Spent one night at Des Lux. Excellent location. Above par complimentary breakfast. Unique hotel with comfortable bed and good location. Bathrooms could use an upgrade. Parking is across the street (10$/day). Cleanliness was good, but bathroom could have used another look (found a few strands of hair on the floor and in tub).
The ladies at the front desk are exceptional! We requested an early check in due to a wedding we were attending. They did everything they could to get us in and even called us en route when it became available! Also, the hotel is VERY creatively appointed, beautiful!
Lovely staff, room and welcoming atmosphere! Bar staff particularly friendly. Breakfast coffee was great -- food okay. Lots of options though. Easy and inexpensive parking. Would highly recommend for value, comfort and style.
This is a lovely hotel. Room size and history make this an excellent place to stay. The city has a problem keeping cars from racing at night, which can be annoying while trying to sleep but I did notice that Omaha had a similar problem. This was a short trip and the bar was only opened one night because of staff shortage but we seem to have that problem everywhere. Keep up the great service for everything else Des Lux. The staff was great!!
I have stayed at this hotel 3x. My family and friends love it. What would have made this hotel 5 star for us is having some more movie/tv options. Also, bar could be open later than 9pm. Shuttle services should be available past 9 pm. Spa should not close at 11pm. Sometimes people want/need services past the bed time of the kids!!!
