Brand-spanking new hotel, elegant room design, clean, tidy... endlessly friendly (think "Iowans") staff. New fridge and microwave, lots of space for hangers and for writing things down. Beds are comfy.

We booked a two-bed suite which cost me $189. The sleep area and bed area were separated by a short half-wall (not separate rooms). Facility is new so it was very clean. The indoor pool area is very small and only had about 5 or 6 chairs so we ended up standing to watch our kids swim. While we were there (on Friday, May 13th), a group of middle school girls got stuck in the elevator! It jerked and made a very loud sound before stopping between floors. I highly recommend the stairs!! The worst part of our stay was the construction that is going on around the hotel. Right below our window, a construction guy started cutting concrete at 6:30 a.m., effectively waking all of us up. We told the front desk and they informed us that it was construction through the city and that there was nothing they could do.

The continental breakfast was good. Nothing special but it was clean and well stocked.

This is the second bad Holiday Inn experience I've had in the last three months. We're switching to Marriott's for future stays!

Room tip: Ask for a room that doesn't face construction, if one exists!

Thank you for your review of our new hotel. I am sorry to hear that construction outside of the hotel was a disturbance. That work on the adjoining road has been completed. You mentioned that there was some trouble with one of our elevators, which we have addressed with the guests that experienced the problem with a happy resolution.

Please come back to see us again- there are many great things happening in Des Moines and we would love the opportunity to share our great property with you.

Sincerely-

this is a new hotel in the downtown Des Moines area. Highly recommend this facility if you are looking for a place in the downtown area. It is close to activities and easy to access all the major interstates around the Des Moines area. The staff was absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable in helping us find and locate attractions we were looking for. Rooms were very clean and beds were a dream with great pillows. The rooms have darkening shades which provided a chance for us to sleep in late and not be bothered. Breakfast area was very clean, spacious and relaxing with a nice variety of food. Price was very comparable to other facilities and very good for the downtown location. This is a new hotel and they are still working on the outside grounds area, but inside the hotel is very modern and clean.

This hotel is very new and it's always fun to stay in a shiny new place before our collective mass has beaten the heck out of it, but this one has a few problems out of the gate. The bathroom door was really heavy--noteworthy, put-your-shoulder-into-it, kids can't close it without help, heavy--but didn't provide any more of a sound barrier than usual. In fact, the bathroom fan, which we use more for spare-me-all-the-gory-details sound override and white noise was barely audible. The "kitchen" area--mini fridge, microwave, Keurig was part of the hall into the room and **right next** to the bathroom door and had no counter or room to use anything -- just noticeably cramped. The bathroom sink has no lever for the sink stopper (seriously?!?), not a huge deal when plugging it, but we really didn't enjoy having to work a fingernail under it to pry it open. The front desk staff were very upbeat and helpful and the shuttle driver was great though!

New HI Express near downtown Des Moines. I like the design and amenities of the new HI Express's. Great for business travelers because of the desk/work area and the fact that lot's of electrical outlets are available. Good fitness room with variety of machines and free weights. Service staff was great every time I have stayed. Restaurants/bars nearby which you can walk to depending on the weather, otherwise hotel shuttle available.
