We traveled to Chicago from July 13 - July 16. My wife and I stayed at the Virgin while our friends stayed at the London House just about a block away. The price of the Virgin compared to other hotels in this general area was pretty good which is why we ultimately booked it. This location is very close to millennium park, about a block and a half to the canal separating river north and river south, and looks directly at Trump tower. We stayed on the 21st floor and the best view that we could get was looking toward the Sears tower, we could barely see Trump Tower and the river if we leaned into the corner of the window. The hotel itself is very trendy and very cool, I would classify it as young and sexy. The staff was extremely friendly and helped us out when needed and the rooms were very comfortable. The bed and pillows are awesome, nice big shower with a rain head and a detachable wand, motion sensing lights in the closets, Bluetooth speaker, moderately priced drinks and snacks, hardwood floors, etc. We didn't try any of the hotel food or coffee as we wanted to venture out and we had heard that the coffee wasn't that good, but we can't review it first hand. We walked pretty much everywhere and it was an easy walk to Millennium Park, train/bus stations, and plenty of restaurants. I would classify the area as generally safe, but I will offer one word of warning which really has nothing to do with the hotel itself. On Friday and Saturday nights tons of people are out late so you can walk around and feel completely safe. On Sunday night we found ourselves out somewhat late looking for ice cream and didn't pay much attention to the diminishing crowds around us. About a block from the hotel we witnessed a man getting beaten and kicked by about 5 other guys. As we got closer to the hotel we were aggressively approached by another man that was obviously on drugs and we went into the hotel and had security run him off. So the tip is, don't stay out late on the streets on days other than Friday/Saturday.More
