Owner description: The largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere! Housed in the only remaining building from the 1893 World’s Fair, MSI is a Chicago must-see. You’ll experience 14 acres of hands-on exhibits and have the chance to stand before a 40-foot tornado; climb aboard a World War II German submarine; take a run in a human-sized hamster wheel; descend into an Illinois coal mine; tour a fully functioning eco-friendly home; board a 727 hanging from the ceiling; transmit your pulse to a 13-foot, 3-D beating heart; and much more! MSI is not a place where you walk around quietly and observe. No way! You get involved in the fun—and learn—by doing. Just a few miles from downtown with convenient underground parking.
Useful Information: Activities for young children

The sub tour was great. We also did the coal mine tour. While it was okay, I think it would have been better with less people on the tour. I think we had at least 20 on our tour. Nothing like being pushed so tightly together no one can move or see what is being highlighted. It also seemed to be geared more toward kids in the information presented. If you go as a group of adults like we did, be prepared for screaming and pushy children. A lot of the interactive parts of the displays did not work for either of us. It was also very loud inside from crowd noise and several exhibits that blew loud horns etc. I am glad we saw it once but would not make a return trip unless it was for an extra special traveling exhibit.

Had an awesome time at the Museum of Science and Industry! Loved the Pixar exhibit-definitely worth the extra money. Also loved the You! exhibit. Will come again.

It's best place to visit along with children. It develops and answers children's curiocity questions. I loved this place being science graduate. Thank you very much

Best Science Museum ever!! You need an entire day (6+ hours at least) to see it all, and one whole day might not be enough!!
If you go with kids, please make sure you go down to the Lower Level: a lot of activities and a fun-with-water area just for them! Yet, children over 10 can be entertained and amazed pretty much throughout the museum, just like us adults!
Note: exhibits are at an extra price (the Pixar one currently on right now is $14/person, $11 kids), as well as covered parking. Highly recommend membership if you live in Chicago! It gives you a lot of discounts and this place is so amazing you'll want to visit over and over again!

The Museum of Science and Industry is fun for the whole family, whether you’re two or eighty-two you’ll enjoy the many and varied interactive displays.

Go early to avoid the hordes of school kids and work your way from top to bottom.
