We stayed at the Courtyard/Residence Inn on Jekyll Island for just one night as we travelled back to Canada from Southwest Florida. The hotel is a new Marriott hotel (more like a resort) right on the beach. Yes, the beach is the backyard of the hotel and is one of the most beautiful anywhere in the world, very wide with dunes that stretch for miles.
It’s not just the beach but the historic nature of the Island’s history that will make your stay special. The Courtyard / Residence Inn has a free shuttle (a six person golf cart and a van) that will take you to the Historic District and pick you up when you want to come back. We took up the offer of a free ride to the historic district to spend the later part of the day. You’ll see most of the buildings erected during the Jekyll Island Club era. They have been carefully preserved. The centerpiece of the grounds is the large Jekyll Island Club Hotel, a two-winged structure that contains numerous suites for rental. The presidential suite contains the three-story turret on the front of the building. Thirty-three buildings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries surround the hotel; many are the elaborate mansion-sized "cottages" built by the rich. Others have been adapted for use as museums, art galleries, or bookstores.

If you’re spending a few days on Jekyll, have dinner at least once in the Hotel, They have a great menu and the ambiance is perfect overlooking the pool area and lobby. If you are just doing one day, arrive early for a walk on the beach. On a warm evening you can relax on the pool terrace with comfortable loungers and gas fireplaces. We stayed in the Residence Inn side. Rooms are large and all you need is right at your fingertips. If it’s not, the accommodating, friendly staff are a phone call away.
Enjoy the new “spot” on Jekyll – we did.More
